I stayed at the Showboat April 12-13 because I wanted to see Tony N' Tina's Wedding (MUST SEE) there and it was just so convenient. After arriving, I checked in quickly and efficiently at the front desk. I was put into a room in the Orleans Tower (new). I have been to Showboat since I was young, and was very pleased at the service and how they re-did the place. I quickly realized that the tower lobby was the entrance for the showroom and had a Starbucks Coffee! Excellent location! The hallways of the hotel portion are new (because the tower was new). I got adjoining rooms with my mother, which was an excellent feature that not all of the hotels have. The room was very spacious, and featured a huge TV that came out and swiveled, a refrigerator, huge window, and a spacious bathroom. The bathroom and room looked brand new. WARNING: The door to the room is super heavy and slams shut fast!! Anyway, the TV had many channels. The room was pretty basic but clean and had just what I needed. Mine had two beds, a table, and two chairs. In the morning, I had breakfast at the Mansion Coffee Shop which is an all day food place. The food is wonderful and the service is excellent. I didn't have to wait one second for a table, which at the Tropicana I usually wait 20 minutes or so for one. Anyway, if you want a great place to stay, I would definitely stay here. It is very easy to get around and go to whatever you need with little walking. HINT: The Taj Mahal is attached to Showboat and Resorts is attached to the Taj, so you can go from casino to casino without walking on the boards or the street.

My husband and I just returned home from a one night stay in the Bourbon tower of the Showboat. Our experience actually began pleasantly with a check-in that ran very smooth and a very friendly employee. The room itself was very nice and the bed very comfy.
Our problems began the following morning around 10:00am....we were sitting in bed drinking our coffee when all of the sudden a LOUD HIGH-PITCHED ALARM begins to go off and a voice comes on the intercom in the room saying.." ATTENTION ALL GUESTS, THERE HAS BEEN AN EMERGENCY REPORTED IN THE BUILDING..PLEASE STOP ALL ACTIVITY AND EVACUATE THE BUILDING IMMEDIATELY!!!! At this point, my husband and I are rushing around the room..trying to collect all of our belongings incase we can't re-enter the building and we hear doors slamming in the hallway...kids screaming and crying and craziness outside of our room. After about 5 minutes go by...another voice comes on the intercom saying..ALL CLEAR, WE HAVE AN ALL CLEAR IN THE BUILDING! Well, we have no idea what "ALL CLEAR" means so I decided to call the front desk and the lady that answered was VERY sarcastic to me when I asked her if we were to still be evacuating the building. She responded...uh, it was only a routine test! Like we were supposed to know that! We are most upset about the fact that no one EVER bothered to come on the intercome and say that the hotel was about to perform a test so don't be alarmed!!! It totally ruined what had started out as a great time at the Showboat. We are very disappointed with the way the hotel handled this so called "test". We completely understand that these tests need to be performed periodically.....but ATLEAST warn the guests BEFORE you cause a PANIC in the entire building!!!!!!!!!
When we checked out of the room...we decided to go to the Taj for a lunch buffet and while we were sitting there eating...a voice comes on their intercome and says.." Attention all guests, we are going to be running a TEST of our emergency response system...THIS IS ONLY A TEST" So after we were warned of their test...we wondered why the Showboat did not display the same consideration for their guests!! We will not be returning and I have sent a formal complaint to the management of this property. Let's see if anyone responds!

  • Liked — The room and bed
  • Disliked — Lack of consideration for guests!

Returned a few hours ago form a two day stay at the Showboat. Based on other reviews here we requested a room in the Bourbon Tower. The room was quite nice and had a decent view of the ocean. The TV mounted on the wall as not a plasma screen. It was an LG LCD. The remote didn't seem to work properly as it tended to jump to the adult movies almost by itself. By accessing the TV menu from the button on the TV I found that the remote was never set up properly. In a few minutes I had the TV configured to recognize the remote. Then I ran through the TV setup to improve the picture quality. There was some construction noise but nothing major. The major noise came from the people in an adjoining room. They were constantly arguing over money. Hey, if you're having money problems then visiting a casino is a dumb idea.

My only real complaint was about their shuttle buses that connect to the other Harrah's properties. There are 3 lines that are supposed to operate on a schedule. The times between runs are 50 minutes apart. If you are going from Showboat to Bally's and miss the shuttle you are better off either walking or taking a Jitney for $2. In fact the Jitney is faster to just about all locations. If you want to take a chance on a shuttle I advise getting in line at least 30 minutes early and then praying enough people alight at your stop. There is no control of the line to board shuttles. For example when a shuttle arrived at Caesars, even though there was already a long line outside, people ran out of the inside waiting area and pushed their way on the shuttle. The driver did nothing to stop them and ignored the complaints of those had been in line for 15-20 minutes. During the summer months I can imagine riots if they don't provide more shuttles. When I spoke with a manager at the customer service desk about the service all I got was brushoff. Another rep told me that they've been getting lots of complaints for weeks.

  • Liked — End of boardwalk. Less traffic problems
  • Disliked — Poor shuttle service

I just wrote a very long review and then it was lost, so again I will write but a shorter version. On April 3rd my Mom, daughter and myself where overcome by fumes at this hotel. We got no help and got very ill. We had to move at 12am to another tower and were told that there where no employees to help us. We got sicker breathing the fumes while we packed to move. We could not leave our things until the fumes were gone and there was no-one in the hotel that evening but one front desk employee who was now overcome with calls from other guests complaining of the fumes. The new room was far away and our bags were heavy. Carrying bags and the effects of the fumes on the 3 of use was awful. we got to our new room after alot of trouble breathing and having to stop many times to catch out breath and stop from vomiting in the halls. We arrived at our new room to find it unmade and dirty. The front desk never once picked up the phone during the whole ordeal so we called security. They explained that had watched us struggle and stated that they would send a nurse the dirty room to see us because I could not imagine walking to the nurse's office once again carrying all these bags. No-one ever showed a bit of concern, that we were sick or that other guests could get sick. I was told by 3 men, the front desk man "Philip" the head of maintanence"Jim" and another "jim" who stated he worked for hotel operations that I was the only person who complained of the odor. I knew this was a lie as I had already be told by other guests on the elevator that they were going to complain at the desk because they could not reach anyone by phone. The ordeal ended with us finally getting a room at about 3am. We slept a few hours and checked out by 11am. No employee ever showed a bit of concern. I called the hotel about 12pm and requested that I find out what chemical was used to make us so sick. I was told it was something they used to clean the elevators with but they did not know what it was. I found out 4 days later that the chemical which I do not know the name of was used to clean the elevators and that it was not used correctly and many guests got sick. Every person that I spoke with at the casino seemed bothered by my request to find out what made me sick and not one person ever asked me how my family was doing. I understand that things happen beyond the control of hotels at times, but this whole matter was treated wrong and I cannot help but wonder how the baby in the room next to me is doing. I also would like to know why this emergeny was handled in such a poor manor. I welcome anyone who was there that evening to contact me and let me now how they are feeling and see if the hotel treated them any better

This was my second visit to the Showboat. On my last visit, we had booked the new orleans tower, but we found the rooms to look a little
on the worn side. We also needed internet hookup, for my husband(business reasons). We called the desk, and they told us the Bourbon towers were recently remodeled, and had wifi internet. We changed rooms. Were we happy we did, The newly remodeled rooms are lovely. Very modern, modern furniture, wifi hookup, plasma tv on wall, decorated tastefully, and a lovely bathroom. Safe in the closet also.
Elevators let you off right into the casino. One complaint was the paper thin walls, that allowed us to hear the construction noise, and
it was very loud. We are not late sleepers, so it wasn't a big deal for us, but if you like to sleep in, take the older looking orleans tower until the work is completed. My only other complaint is no security going to the rooms. You do have to enter a room key on the elevator, but you could easily push a floor button, if you follow someone in immediately and push when they put their card in. I would rather see a guard (like at Borgata)by the elevator entrance. At Harrahs, you don't even have to put a room key into the elevators, no
security there at all. All and all, the rooms are lovely, and we had a nice stay there.
