This was my second visit to the Showboat. On my last visit, we had booked the new orleans tower, but we found the rooms to look a little
on the worn side. We also needed internet hookup, for my husband(business reasons). We called the desk, and they told us the Bourbon towers were recently remodeled, and had wifi internet. We changed rooms. Were we happy we did, The newly remodeled rooms are lovely. Very modern, modern furniture, wifi hookup, plasma tv on wall, decorated tastefully, and a lovely bathroom. Safe in the closet also.
Elevators let you off right into the casino. One complaint was the paper thin walls, that allowed us to hear the construction noise, and
it was very loud. We are not late sleepers, so it wasn't a big deal for us, but if you like to sleep in, take the older looking orleans tower until the work is completed. My only other complaint is no security going to the rooms. You do have to enter a room key on the elevator, but you could easily push a floor button, if you follow someone in immediately and push when they put their card in. I would rather see a guard (like at Borgata)by the elevator entrance. At Harrahs, you don't even have to put a room key into the elevators, no
security there at all. All and all, the rooms are lovely, and we had a nice stay there.

  • Liked — modern and clean
  • Disliked — thin walls

I recently stayed at the Showboat for 1 night in a comped room. Check-in went smoothly there were only four people ahead of us at 5 PM and there were three clerks on duty. The check-in clerk we had was Jorge, he was very nice and pleasant. We were assigned a room on the 18th floor of the Orleans Tower. The odd number room had a view of the Bourbon Tower and the Taj. A even number room would have given us a better view of the ocean and inlet. The room was showing some age, some scratches on furniture etc but was clean. There were some old stains on the carpet.

The room had two queen beds that were very soft, a 36 inch tube style tv, the closet had only 1 hanger. There was no safe in the room but there was a mini-fridge. The bathroom had 1 sink and the type of toliet that is air assisted and make a very loud noise when flushing. There were only two fairly small bath towels, two hand towels and 2 wash clothes. The bathroom had a hair dryer that had a built in nightlight. All brass fixtures were clean and polished.

We ate at the Mansion Cafe for breakfast, service was quick and very good. Portions were large and the food was okay nothing special.

We gambled a little bit and walked away slightly ahead so we were pleased with that.

Check-out was done thru their video check-out service and we had no problems with that also.

Overall not a bad expierence but the room could use some upgrades.

  • Liked — Comped room and the staff were pleasant. Even number rooms giive a better view.
  • Disliked — The room could be upgraded and better supplied with hangers and towels.

Rooms were great. They were spacious with no signs of the non-smoking room having been smoked in.

It's impossible to get away from the smell of smoke in the casino.

We would stay there again.

  • Liked — Rooms big and clean
  • Disliked — Casino very smoke filled

The first problem was that we had comped rooms all throughout February but when we got there they said the room would cost $70. Okay, got over that and paid for the room.
So they sent us to the Bourbon Tower and said the next day they were doing renovations on the floors at the top of the tower.
Well he didn't say it was gonna be at 7:30 in the morning. In an all-night town like Atlantic City of course we were up well after midnight. Then at 7:30am we heard hammering that sounded like it was on the floor right above us.
That was the worse part about it but not the only thing that made this stay a bad one.
There was a knocking sound in the walls all night long. At first I thought it was the people in the room next door being rude but then I noticed it was a repititous knock that happened about every half hour - ALL NIGHT. The walls were paper thin. Every time someone in one of the neighboring rooms used the bathroom you could here the toilet flush like it was in our own room. Finally, the beds were very uncomfortable. Usually casinos provide comfortable beds and pillows. Two weeks back we stayed at the Days Inn at Atlantic City and their beds and pillows were by far more comfortable than the Showboats.

  • Liked — The bar in the casino
  • Disliked — the room

I stayed at the Showboat in the Orleans Tower for 3 nights in January. The casino is nice because it is a little smaller, and some people actually win small amounts of money on weekdays. The nicest casino in AC is the Wild West Casino, but don't expect to win anything there.

So what do you do when you get tired of giving your money away to the slot machines at the Showboat? There is absolutely nothing else to do on weekdays. This hotel only has a tiny outdoor pool and desperately needs an indoor pool like the dream pool at the Borgata. Some shops would also be nice because there is only one jewelry store in the hotel.

The renovated rooms are clean and comfortable with views of the Taj Mahal and the parking garage. The bathrooms are beautiful with granite counters and golden faucets, but without any heat you freeze even in the shower. How much would it cost to install a heat lamp in the bathroom?

Then there is the problem with security because there is none. Access to the hotel elevators is not restricted to hotel guests only, and with the homeless people sitting outside on the Boardwalk, this is a real concern.

Finally, since you have to show your Rewards Card or pay $5 when you enter the self-parking garage, make sure you get a receipt, and you can get the parking fee refunded at the rewards center after check-in. As for me, it's back to the Borgata next time.
