After reading several reviews and being very skeptic about staying at the Show Boat, I am very glad we did.

The main reason for our stay was BB King at the House of Blues. I figured my husand and I wouldn't have to worry about getting around if we just stayed at the same place.

The hotel lobby area was very nice and we had no trouble checking in. When we went to our room I realized it was not the one booked. We were to be in the Bourbon Tower and they put us in the Orleans Tower. From the reviews I read the Bourbon Tower was nicer and it was a little more pricey. That is the only thing I'd be wary of because when you arrive they give you whatever is available. We went right back down to the desk and they switched our room with no problem. We just had to wait for it to be cleaned.

The BB King concert was OUTSTANDING. Even if you are not a blues fan I recommend seeing him before he retires.

I would have to say that our stay was much better then I anticipated. The room was nice and very clean. The Bourbon Tower was recently renevated and it is much nicer the the Orleans Towers.

We had dinner at the Chop House which was very good but if you don't want to spend $$$ then don't go. Personally, I'd rather flush a good dinner away then quarters in a slot machine.

We tried the Canal House before leaving the next day. Don't bother. Everything is premade and the service is slow. It's a deli type style but not very good.

I hope this review helps you. I know I am glad I stayed at the Show Boat.

Checked into the room. Saw the stain but it was dark and I was tired. Went to bed. The next morning I put my feet on the floor and couldn't figure out why my feet felt wet.

After discovering a small stain at the age of the carpet I traced my steps back to the other stains near the bed.

Called housekeeping - they never came to investigate. Went down to the front desk and spoke to a nice woman who immediately moved us to another room. Later on she came to tell us that housekeeping said it was chocolate - NAH!!!!!!!! That isn't chocolate!!!! Check out the pics.

I stayed for one, weekday night at the Showboat Hotel and Casino in Atlantic City in February 2008. I booked a "Hot Deal" rate of $49 for a Bourbon Tower Premium room. Upon check in, I was placed in the Orleans Tower. I went back to the desk to ask about being moved to the Bourbon Tower, but the woman said they were full. I find that hard to believe - it was a Tuesday night in late February. This is just another instance of the Showboat not honoring the prices and reservations placed on their website.

The Orleans Tower is the newer tower, though the Bourbon Tower rooms were updated in 2007 and, quite frankly, are much nicer. The Orleans Tower room is a nice room, none the less.

The entrance has a marble tile floor, as does the bathroom. The foyer area also includes a nicely sized closet with a few hangers and ironing equipment.

The quality of the bathroom was impressive. As I said, the floors are marble tile, and the vanity features a nice black marble top with a wooden base. The toilet and shower were in good condition and both got the job done with no complaints. The shower also has marble tile walls with your standard tub base. The walls are decorated with nice framed pictures of Atlantic City from long ago. A small coffee maker, hair dryer, and shaving mirror round out the bathroom.

The room itself was nice, but unspectacular. I stayed in a king room, which in addition to the bed had a table with two living room style chairs, as well as the TV cabinet. The TV cabinet had a few drawers and a mini-fridge in it. The mini-fridge is not to be confused with a mini-bar, though. This fridge is completely empty with no drinks or snacks for sale. Everything was clean with no unsightly stains or tears.

The casino at Showboat is one of the high points, in my opinion. Unlike some of the other Atlantic City casinos, this one is bright and nicely decorated in a Mardi Gras motif. One drawback, I suppose, is that the casino isn't quite as large as what you will find next door at the Taj Mahal or down the boardwalk at Caesar's. Still, it is a nice size with all the gaming options you could ask for. Most of the floor is slot and video poker machines, but all the table games are there, as well. Also included is the House of Blues casino, which has a number of table games and a scattering of slot machines.

As for dining, the hotel features a chophouse, an Italian joint, two smaller cafes, the French Quarter Buffet, and a House of Blues restaurant.

The French Quarter Buffet is a decent option, though it is a bit pricey on weekends and lacks some of the finer choices that really make buffets worth your money. The last time I ate there, shrimp was included only for Diamond Members and the carving station featured only Turkey and Roast Beef. Sorely missing are the crab legs and prime rib that you find at most buffets.

The Mansion Cafe offers a nice breakfast special for $4.99, which includes one egg, home fries, toast, and sausage or bacon. The food there isn't great by any means and, in the busier months, the lines can be out the door. Still, it isn't bad for an on site dining option.

The House of Blues is a favorite of mine. It is no different from any other House of Blues restaurant around.

Shopping is non-existent at the Showboat. There is a small gift shop with various Showboat and Mardi Gras themed apparel, but if you want anything else, you'll have to make the relatively long trek down to Caesar's or the outlets, or stop in next door at the Taj Mahal, which has a small selection of stores.

Parking is free for all Total Rewards members, so that is something to keep in mind when looking for someplace to park in Atlantic City. The hotel also offers a shuttle, which takes you to Harrah's at the Marina, Bally's, and Caesar's.

The pool was right outside my window, but since it was February, I obviously didn't have a chance to use it. From the looks of it, though, it doesn't inspire any confidence. It is quite small - I would say that it is the size of your average backyard, aboveground pool (though this one is NOT an aboveground pool). The pool is shallow throughout and there seems to be a large area around the pool for sunbathing and what not. I would skip it and hit the beach, though.

We made a reservation for a Bourbon Tower Premium room for one night, but when we checked in (at around 4:30pm) we were given a room in the Orleans Tower. It wasn't until we walked away from the front desk that we strangely realized our room wasn't a Bourbon premium room, and was mildly annoyed that the person checking us in didn't even MENTION that he wasn't putting us in the room we had reserved. Upon returning back to the check-in desk for an explanation I spoke with another person who told me that there were in fact no more premium rooms in the Bourbon tower. I was all right with that, though admittedly disappointed. To add to our disappointment, we were woken up at 6am the next morning by the sounds of the construction site across the street after being up very late the night before!

The final straw of our crummy experience was checking their website and realizing that the Bourbon premium rooms are, on average, about $50 more per night than the Orleans Tower deluxe rooms. I was very much disappointed and annoyed by the whole experience. I feel as if I was short-changed and did not experience the level of stay that I paid for and was expecting. I will most likely not go back there again.

We were invited to a wedding that was to be held at the Showboat, in the Foundation Room upstairs by the House of Blues. When we arrived, the line to check in was around the corner. I was told there would be over an hours wait to check in. After reading so many negative remarks about the hotel, I didn't want to be told that they didn't have a room available at 1 P.M. I decided to go to the diamond express. Although I do not hold the diamond card, I merely have a gold card, I went over to a wonderful lady whose name is Donna, and explained that I have a wedding to go to and have to watch the grandchildren. She gave me a room immediately in the Orleans tower. She was absolutely lovely, and I greatly appreciated how she did not make me wait on that long line. She asked me upon check in if I needed extra towels, and I said yes.
Upon arriving in the room, I didn't know what to expect. I have read so many things about the Showboat and I can see that most of it is true.
The pillows were just awful. They certainly are ready to be replaced by new fluffy ones. The room was okay. It is time that they put a safe in all their rooms. Most hotels have one. The room looked very shabby but, I was there for a wedding and didn't expect to stay in the room.
The housekeeping guy came with exactly 2 towels. NO WASHCLOTHS, NO SOAP, NO SHAMPOO. I was so annoyed at that. There were only 2 towels in the room. Those towels needed to be replaced as well. Very shabby!
The only highlight of this hotel was the Foundation Room meal. The filet mignon at this restaurant was absolutely fabulous! I have never in my life tasted anything so butterly delicious! On the down side, the wedding cake tasted as if it was baked a week before. It was stale. Would I come back again to the showboat? I suppose I would. It certainly wouldn't be my first choice. I would just recommend new fluffy towels and new pillows. A few extra towels and extra soap. The cleaning cart should not have remained in the hallway all night. We arrived at 1 P.M. on Sunday, and it was still there at 7A.M. on Monday. There was also room service carts in the hallway that were never removed. Remember, you have 1 time to make a first impression. That was my impression!
