When I checked in to The Skyline hotel, the reception staff wanted to know if I wanted a high floor or low floor room. I requested something in the middle. Lucky me the entire facility is non-smoking. Located within walking distance of the Resorts, Taj Mahal & Showboat. It's a 5 minute walk door to door to from the skyline to the resorts. Once inside the Resorts, you can check you coat and move from casino to casino via the attached tunnels without being exposed to the elements.
Nearby restaurants are the Atlantic City Bar & Grill which is just across the street, then there are the buffet inside of the casino's, plus the theme restaurants in each of the casinos. The quality of the buffet is proportional to the price, with the Resorts buffet being cheapest at $8.99 all day with their "Uptown Card membership". Another alternative to lunch or dinner is the Irish Pub located about 4 blocks south. There is no restaurant inside the Skyline hotel, but you can purchase "snacks" in the gift shop behind reception. Prices for snacks in the gift shop are actually reasonable. I believe on Saturdays in January Hot Dogs, chips and a beverage are offered in the recreation room on the 6th floor from 12:00 - 15:00 for $2. I thin kthe promotion is called "the dog days of january".
Parking is $10 a day and located inside the first 5 floors of the hotel. On the 6th floor you'll find the pool, recreation area, and laundry room next to the arcade. It's free to wash and dry using the machine, and detergent is available for $1. I believe each room also has a DVD player and DVD's are available for rent from the recreation desk for $5 a day.
Getting to and from the rooms can be a test in patience. The elevator doors open, the elevator is full, the elevator doors would close. I was on the 16th floor and sometimes I just gave up and took the stairs. Not sure which was worse. Waiting for the elevator, or being in the elevator for that ride. Check-in begins at 16:00 and Check-out is 10:00. This is rush hour at the hotel on the weekends. Avoid the elevators during this time as there are only 2 in operation. The 3rd elevator is for staff to move baggage.
The rooms themselves are quite nice. I understand that the hotel underwent a renovation recently. Rooms are not made up daily nor are additional towels provided for free. You can however launder them yourself on the 6th floor. I was provided with enough towels for 4 people and I was travelling alone so that wasn't a problem for me. I've attached a few photos of around my room.
I tried the Jacuzzi in my bedroom. For me it would have been better if I could turn off the bubbles, instead of letting it run for 15 minutes before it automatically shuts off. It gets kinda cold after 7 minutes, and it's easy to overfill the tub with water after you get in and start the bubbles. Perhaps it's my inexperience in using a Jacuzzi.
There's plenty of space in the suite for 2 or even 3. There are extra sheets in the closet for the pull out couch if you need to accommodate more. The kitchen comes with a dish washer, microwave and convection oven, but I don't think you plan on doing much cooking while you're here... It's possible to cook, but not advisable. Also there seemed to be a menu for Chelsea cafe slid under my door every day. I want to say it's a Mexican Pizzeria. While they deliver for an extra $2, stay away from it unless the weather is so bad you don't want to walk across the street. Their Pizza and Wings need work, but perhaps it's me, because I'm comparing pizza and wings from NYC.
In any case, you might want to consider bringing a wrench with you. While the bathrooms are roomy, it's the pressure or lack of in the shower which may drive you insane. There is a water conservation device in the shower head which can be removed by unscrewing the shower head, removing it and then replacing the shower head. The irony is that the water conservation device, while it lowers the pressure going to the shower head, it increases the pressure coming out of the spigot. I believe their current setup actually uses more water as the low pressure shower head caused me to take a longer shower. In any case, seriously bring a wrench...
There are activities offered by the hotel throughout the day. The schedule is posted in the elevators, and I believe also come in the welcome pack which is provided at check-in.
If you want to get around Atlantic City you should either walk along the boardwalk if the weather is nice, or you might want to consider taking the Jitney which is $2 and basically runs to all of the Casinos. The Number 2 Jitney will run to basically everywhere, even out to the Borgota and Trump Marina hotels. In fact there is no realy way to get out to the Borgota if you don't have a vehicle. There are stops I think at every intersection, and the frequency is very often.
Would I stay here again? Yes. If I went to Atlantic City again, this is where I'd like to stay. But I'd bring a wrench with me, and avoid the elevators around "rush hour". This is a good budget hotel which seems to cater to the timeshare crowd, but not for the high roller. Thanks for looking.
