Visited The Water Club midweek for 2 evenings as a "girl's getaway." Several members of the group had previously stayed at The Borgata--we gave The Water Club a try, mostly so we could use the outdoor pool (people staying at The Borgata cannot use the pool facilities at The Water Club).
Check in was spotty: reservationists seemed confused and forgot to write our room numbers on our room keys. The lobby is cavernous and austere, in that oh-so-modern way. We stayed in 2 queen bed rooms: nicely appointed, but lacking amenities such as a club chair, table and coffee maker. The room itself is nicely sized, but nothing special. Flat screen TV is nice and the bed is very comfortable. Bathrooms are poorly lit--trying to put on makeup was an adventure! Overall, the bathrooms are nicely sized, but there are no tiles on the walls in the toilet area: that looks cheap. Nice plush towels and robes. Loved the L'Occitane products.
We had lunch at the Sunroom, where we waited 30 minutes for 3 salads. Finally, one was brought to us with the excuse that "the kitchen is backed up." Too bad!! We told the manager that was unacceptable and our salads were comped. (There are no restaurants in The Water Club. Everything comes from kitchen areas in The Borgata.)
Dinner at Bobby Flays was a big disappointment. The tasteless corn and lobster chowder was brought to the table without a spoon and no one bothered to bring one over. Overall, service there was mediocre.
The outdoor pool area is indeed inadequate, given the number of rooms at The Water Club. While we had no trouble getting lounge chairs during the week, pool workers told us that "the weekends have been impossible." The outdoor pool is rather plain and nondescript. The outdoor pool that borders the $300 a day cabanas is perpetually empty and lacks any decking area for additional seating. It is, in effect, a private pool for the high rollers. The indoor pool is quite attractive, but was filled with children, who are not allowed in the outdoor pools (thank goodness---the outdoor pools are SO small they would be quickly overrun by the kiddies).
Three members of our group used the spa (Immersion) at The Water Club and experienced sticker shock--(massage-$210, facial-$240). None felt the experience was exceptionally superior to the spa in the Borgata.
As a personal thing...what's up with all the uniformed security stationed at the glass doors that open on to the elevators?? It looks like a police state! Can't The Water Club dress their security people in something less austere?? It was a turn off (but the people themselves were very nice--and the elevators were quick and spacious).
Overall, The Water Club is a pretentious add on to The Borgata. It's very full of itself, yet service and amenities do not support the attitude. We paid $359 and $379 for our rooms--unless I had a comp, I would not stay here again (and it seemed that everyone else was comped!).
