Owner description: New Jersey's tallest lighthouse awaits you at Pacific and Rhode Island Avenues in Atlantic City (walking distance from Showboat Casino). Take an amazing journey into time and above it all as you ascend the 228 steps of the Absecon Lighthouse, one of the oldest lighthouses in the country. You'll see breathtaking views of the Atlantic City skyline and up top you'll come face-to-face with the original first-order Fresnel Lens, first lit in 1857.The lighthouse's recent multi-million dollar restoration also includes a stunning replica of the Lightkeeper's dwelling, an educational museum, charming gift shop, Fresnel Lens exhibit in the original Oil House and expansive grounds. The Absecon Lighthouse is on both the New Jersey and National Registries of Historic Places.

“Lighthouse Experience”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 15, 2012

I really enjoyed the Lighthouse, I thought it was an interesting and fantastic day to take a trip offshore and get to experience a little history-rich trip.

I probably won't return, because there isn't MUCH else than what one trip would offer, but I still thought it was something that was fun and interesting to do with my parents.

We visit Atlantic City often and this was our first time doing something other than casinos or bar hopping, and my parents recommended the Noyse museum offshore as well which we attended to make a nice little sin-free morning before our sin-rich night.

“When you are tired of casinos”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 14, 2012 via mobile

Take a detour to Absecon Lighthouse. Near the casinos but an entirely different experience. Climb the 266-step spiral staircase (on Fridays there is an 85-year old docent who does it!) for great 360 views. The restored keeper's house holds a variety of historic photos and artifacts. Check out their website for a $1 off coupon.

“Wonderful staff”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 25, 2012

The people here are so nice, they're volunteers and take great care of the property. Great place to visit, walk here along the boardwalk, climb about 228 steps and get some exercise, enjoy the view and get away from the casino for a couple of hours. On the way back be sure to stop at the Irish Pub for a well deserved pint and a cheap but good lunch.

“220 steps and the lightkeeper greets you!”

Wear your sneakers for this climb - but it is like stepping into history to do! The history of the site is laid out nicely for visitors to learn all about the lighthouse and the area.
