“Best hostel I have stayed anywhere in the world!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 18, 2014

The Drop bear lived up to it's expansive reputation - from its brilliant facilities (big kitchen, gigantic clean pool, entertainment room with thousands of movies and shows, clean and spacious bathrooms and big quiet dorms) to its brilliant staff! Staying at the drop bear has been one of the highlights of my trip!

I would like to thank Gabe and his team for making Australia Day so much fun and for all of their help and guidance on what to do around Santa Marta!

Hope to see you all again for the World Cup!

Room Tip: Be there on a Sunday for the house tour - it has an amazing story and plenty of history!

Traveled all around South America and found this place to be one of the absolute bests. Staff are amazing, lots of space, clean rooms and pool area, huge kitchen. Great base for some Colombian shenanigans.

Tucked away on a quiet street in Santa Marta lies Drop Bear hostel - an ex cartel house that was recently turned into a very cool hostel. Drop Bear is run by an expat Aussie who knows a thing or two about travel - comfy beds, cleanliness and a cool bar and communal area are just some of the best things about this hostel ' oh and the fact that you can drink at the bar where mr escobar himself once drunk. The aussie barmen brendo was a great addition - no cocktail was too difficult and his service was always served with a smile
baggage storage is simple and safe with video surveillance, staff are friendly and efficient and the laundy service reasonable.
Definitely stay here when you are in the area and combine with lost city trek and tyrona national park

Room Tip: Upstairs dorm is best with cool breeze and spacious bunks if you float receptions boat you may hear...

This hostel is great. Its in a real quiet area, 5 mins from a big supermarket, 5 mins from all local buses to the centre, taganga, tayrona. Its a big hostel, full of hammocks for everyone to relax in. Theresba large room with a big couch with a TV and an endless collection of films and shows on a hard drive. The pool is clean and the bar is a great hang out spot. The staff are lovely and very helpful. The tour of the house on Sundays is very cool, do it if you can. The beds were comfy, rooms have fans that are cool, towels are free to borrow. huge lockers. Downside, bathroom werent very clean and same with the kitchen, needs more utensils.

We stayed here before and after the Lost City hike and it was awesome. Large rooms, all have bathrooms located near them, pleasant night sleep, and a pool! The owner was very friendly and instantly asked us what we were doing in Santa Marta and how he could help us with anything we needed for the Lost City. Also, they do a tour of the Cartel House every night so I suggest checking it out, the history of the house and Colombia are very interesting.

It's a must do if you're in the area!

I've done a lot of travelling and stayed in a lot of Hostels and Drop Bear is the best. Great house, great vibe. Easy to be social or retire to a quiet hammock if you want to be alone. Great bar. Great Staff. Cant recommend this place enough. Stay here. See for yourself.
