“There are two Playa Blancas in Colombia...FYI”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 8, 2013

I really liked my day at Playa Blanca near Santa Marta (Rodadero). Yes there are lots of vendors, yes there are lots of people but I think that's the beauty of this beach. Get a cooler of beer from one of the vendors (they will fill it with whatever you want) that way the drink vendors don't keep approaching you, that will eliminate like half of all vendors. Get there early so that you can get a tent in the front row, by early I mean like by 10am or so depending on the day of the week. The ceviche is way overpriced for what you get so I wouldn't recommend spending the money on it, just eat some fish soup and fried fish at one of the restaurants. It doesn't really matter which one you choose cause I think they are all related some way or another cause you see the boat guys going from one restaurant to another. You will have to grab a boat from Rodadero and you can skip the aquarium if you want to.

“Choppy waters but great beach”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 11, 2013

Not white sands by Barabdos standards but whiter than Santa Marta. The beach is smaller and the sea choppy but great fun.
Not idea for small children due to the depth of the sea but for adults great plus there restaurants are good too!
Don't pay more than €10,000 pesos each way.
Don't pay for a return as you won't find your boat and will need to pay another.
A definite for a day out

“Dirty and caothic!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed February 28, 2013 via mobile

Although its a nice beach, with crystal water and white sand it's all filthy and surrounded by rubbish. Getting to the place and leaving it, it's a continuous fight with the drivers of the boats. They are unpunctual and they overload the old boats. Also In Your way if you buy the stop at the aquarium you will lose an hour and a half of your time because the stop is disappointing. As well guides are des-organised, very loud music and an awful dolphin show. The only thing good about playa blanca is the food.

“Best beach in Santa Marta”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 22, 2013

Like others have said this is the nicest beach we visited close to Santa Marta. The water is clean but crowded. You can only visit by boat which helps with the crowds but the beach is very narrow and very popular. There are many restaurant choices and the service is very friendly. There are activities available for rent like jet skis and the banana tube thingy pulled behind a boat which is lots of fun. The sand is VERY hot and course so come prepared. There are rental tents and chairs but you need to arrive early to get a good spot. Also plan lunch early for best choices. Plenty of snacks and drinks are available from passing vendors all day.

“Best beach in Santa Marta”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 12, 2013

We visited this beach while in Santa Marta. As I have found with Colombian beaches, the best experiences are paid for. The public beaches in Santa Marta are very crowded, dirty, and the water is polluted from coal tankers that pass right near the beaches. This water, though, is clear and the sand is white. It is rather coarse, and not the softest, but it does sink so the water stays clearer. We visited on a Friday morning, and it wasn't all that busy. The travel agent in our hotel recommended avoiding it on a Saturday because it gets too busy. Also near Playa Blanca is the Aquarium and I would recommend that as something to do too. It doesn't have a lot, but my kids LOVED the dolphin show.
