“The best decameron in town!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 27, 2014

I went to San andres during my last vacation (Dic'13) and i had a great time. First of all, is importat to say that decameron owns 5 resorts in the island, one of them the Aquarium. This hotel has no sand, but a "natural pool" (a little space next to the deck, where you can see fishes and swim with them). The hotel has 16 "towers" where the rooms are, i stayed in the 16th, the view was incredible. All the rooms, restaurants, etc are connected by little bridges. From my expirience it is important to have activities scheduled for your stay there. For example the first day i went to the Acuario island, is 5 minutes from the hotel, here you'll see the crystal clear waters and have the chance to take a couple of tours. The second day i went to Johnny cay, again, simply beautiful. Other day we rented a golf car and drive around the island, it takes around 3 hours no stops, but it can be an all day activity if you make several stops to take pictures, etc. An additional cool thing about the decameron is that you can enter to all of the 5 hoteles with only staying in one. For example during my "island trip" i stopped in the Delfines for some drinks, you only need to show you bracelet. Finally i recommend to stay here or in Mar azul if you like open places. The other hotels are smaller and have less activities. We didn't have much interaction with the crew, only with the bartenders who were a little bit to intersted in the tips instead of offearing a good service. But overall, i had a great time!

Room Tip: 16th are the newest rooms, try to get one of those!

this place still in the 1950 , we were so upset because we made reservation months ahead and when we got there they made us wait about 3 hours and we made reservation for a double room with ocean view and they put us in a room with too small beds with no ocean view and next to the pool which is so noisy specially at nite when they have the show , which also had a lot to be desire,. knowing that we were a couple, they do not care at all about your needs, no body train this people to be polite to customers, they just know that there will always be new tourist coming that they do not know how bad this place really is, the food was nothing to write home about, we went to other places to eat our dinners, the rooms are old and bad kept, they just paint on top of old paint and the frames and walls looked terrible. the only thing about this place is the beautiful nature that GOD has given to these people and they do not know how to maintaining it, there are so many other places that you can spend you money and still enjoy nature, without having to put up with garbage everywhere. but like i said the views are breath taking, the all inclusive is unreal, there was a small fridge in the room and it was empty
no a drink in it, not like Cancun where the fridge of all inclusive has drinks , and the drink that they made at the bars they claim were terrible, never had such a bad drinks in my life we definitely are never going back there.

Room Tip: i would say get an ocean view, but it does not matter because when you get there they give you whate...

I stayed 5 days, the service is good in general as a hotel but when I have to talk about the customer service it is terrible, lack of information, most of the employees (front desk, reservation, and those you have to deal with) they have an attitude, just a few I can say made a difference but in my personal opinion they should work more in improving this area. But if you want to have fun, eat well and enjoy your own way of the Caribbean style definitely go to this island, and be prepare for an excellent experience!!

I have coming here for about 35 years and not much has changed. We upgraded to a suite and it was worth it. Sullen and Estrella in guest services are very helpful. Love being able to get dinner and day passes to other resorts. However you can't go to Isleno. Be sure to call ahead at Rocky Cay and you can get lobster for a little more. The New Year dinner was great. Mario and Marley are still at the Marazul although Mario and his wife Ilsa split. Jimmy of chair fame from Isleno is now selling snacks. Victor is still doing massages on the beach in front of Isleno for 50,000! So that's it.

This was our first trip to the Island and recommendation from relatives that live in Costa Rica. The Aquarium Resort is conveniently located near the airport and right in the downtown area of the island. The hotel towers, are all mostly built right in the ocean ! The rooms with on the Oceanside is breathless and most impressive... almost as if you were on the balcony of a ship.

The rooms and buildings are older and show their age although efforts are clearly made to maintain as best as possible from the natural sea salt wear and tear. The beds in our case were a little worn and the washroom was small but everything was white, clean and smelled clean everyday after Mercedes did her cleanup.

The personnel at the desk during the day are committed to help and assist as best as they can. The general staff everywhere is polite and try to please.

The A la carte restaurants are sometimes hard to reserve however both buffet propose excellent quality and choice of food. There are limited sitting outside at both locations however available as people seem to prefer to eat in the AC main halls.

The docks that join all the facility are amazing and provide endless views of the ocean. There are plenty chairs and people respect the fact that chairs are not assigned unlike other resorts where chairs are reserved for days at 5 a.m. every day... This is NOT the case...

Visiting the other the other Decameron for a drink of eat is easily accessible and makes you appreciate your location.

There is no beach at this resort however the public beach is next door therefore easily accessible and Decameron also has a private beach and restaurant called Rocky Kay which is a must during your stay.

Shopping is also very convenient as the hotel is directly downtown... This is a DUTY FREE island so prices are generally good... and you can return with your liquor as part of your carry on...

This is also men heaven where a la carte only requires nice shorts and shorts that cover the shoulders. No highly dressing here!

If you are looking for a fun, relaxing place to vacation and can accept that the rooms although always clean, start to show age... This is a place fr you! If you are looking for a 5 star service and accommodation, this is not for you but I will stress that San Andres offers you natural heaven that many 5 stars will not provide you...

For those travelling with Nolitour, Karine the site representative is there and available to make sure you have the very best of time while vacationing.

One last thing... NO watered down booze here... beware... too many Coco Loco's will quickly turn you in the attraction of the day :) Also, for some reason the wine is high in alcohol without noticing it so within 2 glasses you will wonder what's happening...

Hope this will be helpful... I will return to this Caribbean Heaven for sure...

Room Tip: Towers 1,2 or 3 on the ocean side have the best view and 2nd or 3rd floor is better.

The rooms and resort are not your typical high end, commercialized all inclusive accommodations, but they provide for a relaxing and more than enjoyable experience with its own unique charm. The rooms facing the ocean come with a million dollar view and even if they could be matched they would be unaffordable to most.

The food is very good. In comparison to resorts in Jamaica, Cuba, Dominican Republic, the food here surprisingly out did them all. If I had to offer a criticism it would be that the variety is not as expansive as some of the other resorts. With that said, there was enough selection to choose from for any of the three meals and there was always at least two dishes that were exceptional. Don't forget to try their soups!

For people looking for a beach unfortunately this place does not offer one within the grounds. However, the pier/dock is a good alternative that is great for sunbathing and jumping in the ocean. I myself am accustom to a beach but I appreciated not having to wash off the sand from my body and flip flops. The public beach is about 7 minutes away and is a great option.

Johnny Cay has to be the most pristine and picturesque beach area I have ever been to and deserves a paragraph on its own. I don't think my imagination could create a more idyllic setting. Tours are offered that include a stop on the island but I would recommend hiring a boat taxi to give you the flexibility of spending as much or as little time there as you want - it is also a cheaper alternative.

All in all you get great value for your dollar, the weather is always warm and the people are friendly. A must visit for anyone not entirely focused on a crazy party scene.

Perhaps the best about this al inclusive hotel were both the scenery and the food.
Rooms are built on pilars which are funded in the sea. The buildings are connected through wooden piers which is very quaint.
The view of the sea from the rooms is breathtaking. The mantainance of the buildings has room for improvement though.
Food is great! Fresh ingredients not slightly overcooked even though it is a buffet.
Do expect a good wifi connection even if you pay for it.

Room Tip: Ask for ocean view (in advance) and away from the pool
