In an attempt to find an alternative to the large all-inclusive hotels on the Island, we chose the underdog, the Cocoplum. Let me first say you will not find a kinder, more caring staff on the Island, they really make you feel at home. However I was a bit disappointed by the rooms and grounds of the hotel. They were a bit worn and tattered to say the least. (A bit like the Island itself) The rooms are dated and dingy, but we had a lovely ocean view. The pool was also a bit murky. It almost felt like we staying at a hotel the Griswolds may have stayed at in one of the Vacation movies. The food is awful, but served by a kindhearted and welcoming staff. We at outside the hotel after 1 meal. The hotel helped us arrange a golf cart rental, which was a great way to see the Island. Having the cart also helped us find a beautiful beach where you could rent chairs and eat freshly caught seafood. This is where we spent our entire time on the Island. I am usually very fussy about hotels, but I will give the Cocoplum a pass because it reminded me a bit of the beach places my parents took me to in the 70’s. There were lots of Europeans at the hotel that seemed to be having the time of their lives. If they renovated the rooms and cleaned up the grounds the hotel would be paradise.
