“Home away from Home”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 25, 2013

This is definitely the best hostel on the island; clean rooms, big kitchen, homy feeling. Loads of info on the possibilities of the island, restaurant recommendations, etc etc...
Juan & Jenny are by far the nicest people I've met on my trip; the proof being I had a reservation for 2 nights and ended up staying a month! I recommend this place 100%! Also, don't forget to tip Martha, the cleaning lady. She is the best!!
Thank you J&J for everything!

The Blue Almond has a great family feel to it, and is in a convenient location just close enough to downtown but somewhat out of the way. Juan is a great owner, and in fact made dinner for us the first night with him and his girlfriend. Overall a wonderful expereince, and I'm sure the Blue Almond will continue to improve in the future as Juan is always trying to find creative ways to make things better!

Blue Almond is a lovely little hostel about a 15 minute walk away from the main town beach. It´s easy to get around from there, especially if you rent a bike or motorcycle. It´s very small, only 7 beds I think, so you definitely get to know everyone there. Juan and Jennifer are lovely, Juan has perfect English and he will give you loads of advice about what to do and where to go. I also have to thank Juan for helping me at the hospital when I had an accident. They are great people and that makes a big difference when staying at a small hostel.

We very much enjoyed our stay here. Especially because of the very nice and open owners.

Highly recommendable if you like:
- Feeling at home at your hostel
- Having great friendly sociable hosts who can tell you what to do on the island
- Homecooking
- Staying outside the big tourist resort areas
- Cheap accommodation
- Snorkelling (you can rent gear very cheap at the hostel)
- To enjoy a good easygoing night on the couch with bigscreen-TV and a impressing movie collection.

DO IT!

Room Tip: 3 rooms available: 4 person dorm, 2 person private and a singlebed private. Two bathrooms for all...

A buddy and I stayed at this hostel for our four-day visit to San Andres Island in April of 2013. It has more of the intimacy of a private home, since it only has three rooms (with varied numbers of beds). It is in a nice, quiet neighborhood close to the ocean and within walking distance to the center of town (15 minutes). There are nice amenities here, such as an equipped kitchen, flat screen TV, and computer with WiFi, and, chances are, you won't have to compete for the use of these things, since it is closer to being a small, private home. If you are looking for a more crowded hostel--with more social opportunity--this is not it, but if you want something more private and relaxed, you won't find a better value. The best aspect of all is the hostel's owner, Juan, who grew up on the island and has a wealth of recommendations and tips to offer about activities on the island. For example, if you are interested in scuba diving, he will point you toward a terrific shop right down the road (Blue Life), with great, inexpensive boats drives and everything you need. Juan is a super nice guy and makes you feel very comfortable--and well-informed. On a related note, I recommend renting a "mule" (super-charged golf cart) to get around on the island. Mopeds/motorcycles are dangerous here, and the regular golf carts are too slow.

Room Tip: There are rooms with bunks and rooms with two beds. Depends on what you're looking for.

What a place to spend a week. It's not luxurious, far from it, but that is more than made up for by the amazing hospitality and company that seems to flow in and out of the hostel constantly. Everyone got on well with everyone else in the relaxed atmosphere of the Blue Almond, and the owners Juan and Jennifer are just great. Always lending a hand, chatting and being friendly, they even took the hostel guests out on the town a couple of times while I was there. If there's a free bed, grab it, and you'll find a home away from home in San Andres.

Loved to stay in this Hostel. The house is great and has only three rooms, two bathrooms and a good equipped kitchen. It is close to the centre and you can hire bikes. However, the probably best at this hostel are Juan (the owner) and his lovely girlfriend Jennifer. We had a lot of nice chats and both are really helpful and patient with any questions ;-)
I will defintely come back.
