“Great”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 24, 2013

A fantastic view, a great location, a small private beach for the guests, an individual terrace and furthermore very friendly host!
Very simple but nice and clean. And very decent prices (especially vs. Boutique Hotel nearby)
Hope to be back soon!

CocoBay is right on the water on the east side of Providencia; it's literally across the street from the new boutique hotel Deep Blue and Betito's place. Good place to stay for a good value of money. The diving tour with betito was really good. But take care for the prices he asks. There are estimated prices on the island for everything. The people at cocobay gave me a nice breakfast every morning and it is a perfect place to go snorkeling or kayaking!

CocoBay is right on the water on the east side of Providencia; it's literally across the street from the new boutique hotel Deep Blue and Betito's place, where we also stayed but thought was inferior to CocoBay in view, value for money and cleanliness (see review).

CocoBay boasts gorgeous views of Crab Caye and the bay of aquamarine blue water. My husband and I stayed in a 5-person cabin and paid COP 60,000 per person per night (a low-season rate, I think).

There was a balcony over the water with a hammock where we could while away the day enjoying the amazing view.

The cabin was clean and basic, it had a small kitchenette, which might not be well-equipped enough to do any proper cooking (we didn't do any cooking there).

CocoBay isn't the comfiest choice in it's class on Providencia but we wouldn't hesitate to come back there for the location and view. Easy-island living at it's best.

We reserved this hotel in November 2012 for December 26-30 2012. We were assured a room in front of the sea in the second floor and we were required to wire half of the price to the account of Andrew Howard (son of Atanasio Howard, owner of the hotel). When we got there, our room had been assigned to someone who was staying longer. They "took care" of the situation by sending us to a nearby hotel while they were telling us that those rooms where part of Cocobay. The rooms were at the other side of the road, by no means in front of the sea. As these were not the rooms we paid for (this is a cheaper hotel with very dirty rooms), we were sent to an alternate building (also in the back, and for which they do not show pictures on the internet). The room was not clean, we found blood stains in the mattresses and filthy linens. The bathroom was also dirty. It was late at night so we stayed, but the next morning we woke up full of bedbug bites. Naturally we moved out and we spent the whole day finding other place. As we paid for two nights, we requested a reimbursement for the remaining night (90 USD). The owner said that it was his son who received the money and therefore he could not give us the money back. After 2 hours of arguing, the owner agreed to give us (45 USD).

In the end, we ended up with bedbugs bites, a pretty bad experience, one day spent looking for another place and only 45 USD back out of our 180 USD advanced payment.

PLUS, when going to Providencia take into account

1. Be prepared to pay and always keep with you the boleto turístico (25 USD).

2. If you go From San andres by plane, you have to reserved it by calling Decameron. If you go by Catamaran (boat), you should know it is a tough 4-hour trip with fairly big waves. Be sure to take medication for the drowsiness. The way from Providencia is slighty better and only takes 2.5 hours.

3. Be sure to go to the sector of Agua Dulce. Nice bars, restaurants and beach.

4. You can rent golf cars and motorcycles top drive around the island.

5. Cabs are expensive, try to take mototaxi or going in the back of pickup vans, both services are just 3000 pesos per person. Don't pay anymore.

6. The caracol (sea snail or winkle) is banned. Try not to consume this endagered species. Everyone will offer it to you, sadly they offer it in every single restaurant in Providencia.

7. Take enough cash with you. Businesses don't usually accept cards.

We had rented 2 apartments/rooms from Katya at Posada cocobay.
After spending 10 days on the island, we saw many other accomadations and were very happy with our choice. Cocobay had a water front view and access, it's not too far from the center of town and its was clean and quite.

I honestly cannot think of a better choice in Providencia unless you want a Decameron hotel with other tourists :-)

Room Tip: The North room better than the south.

Stayed here with my husband and 9 & 12 yr old.....not recently( 3 yrs ago ) but my info would still be helpful I believe.

As far as location to snorkeling, it can't be beat...directly off your doorstep! The view, worth a million $$. Straight out to Crab Key, amazing. Picture Perfect.

We had the top unit on the right. Wooden walls & floors, good sized beds( 3 I believe ), big deck with hammock and chairs, super little kitchen with table and chairs. Decorated with bright colors, batik curtains, very bohemian chic in a simple/ rustic way. Very clean.

Its a short golf cart ride away from the village to grab groceries....its better if you have transportation, its a fair jaunt to the beaches, etc. Great little spot!
