We have spent many nights there over the past 5 or 6 years. On our most recent visit, we spent two nights at the Empress Hotel in Asbury park, New Jersey in August (for our 2nd wedding anniversary) and it was just a perfect weekend located about 50 yards from the world famous Asbury Park boardwalk and beach on the Atlantic Ocean. The Empress hotel/resort offers a fantastic hotel, gay and gay-friendly nightclub known as Paradise (and it is), the Tabu restaurant where you can get awesome appetizers, a great burger or the best turkey club around Asbury and many other options. The rooms were clean (above average), everything is always in working order, A/C was comfy, so were the beds and the rooms are beautifully appointed with the west side of the hotel facing the large pool and Tiki bars where on summer Sundays the best (and possibly the only) gay Tea-dance on the Jersey shore with the owner (Shep Pettibone) as DJ for the event on most Sundays. We really enjoy dancing as the sun sets. The east side rooms are directed toward the ocean on the upper floors, although the boardwalk and beach are fully visible from any room even with the restaurants and shops across the street. The maid service is excellent and really unobtrusive. You can go out for an hour for breakfast and come back to a spotless room. They even have some pet-friendly rooms for dogs (who do not bark a lot lol). We have been taking our dog Buddie there for a while now. The Empress staff is among the friendliest and most accommodating we have ever come across. When we checked in, we felt as if we came home for a family visit. We can’t wait to go back again for my birthday weekend. Sincerely, Michael, Gerard and Buddie!!!
