2 of 5 stars Reviewed January 26, 2013

I went to this hotel some years ago and it was quite good. But now the service, cleanliness and others was really disappointing. Price was extremely high for what you get.
The most annoying thing was the awful smell of towels and linens.

Room Tip: I do not recommend any

We were staying there 6 days and were quite content. Just the rooms dont have wifi. Its in a walking distance from Zona Rosa, with a lot of restaurants. Rooms are big, beds are large as well, queen size if I remember correctly. We had a twin double room.

Room Tip: valley view

This is definitively NOT a 5 star hotel. Everything is old and dirty (carpets, chairs, comforters). Hot tub yellowish, although bathroom is clean. Food is mediocre, and wifi in the rooms doesn´t work well. On the positive side, like most staff in hotels and restaurants in Medellin, are great, extremely nice and will go out of their way to help you. Rooms, other than the comforters, are clean and quiet.

4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 28, 2012

I had a business trip to Medellin, which is an unusually decentralized city. The Belfort looked intriguing online. I found it reasonably (if not spectacularly) good as a business hotel. There was free wi-fi with a good signal on the main floor (with the lobby, restaurant, lounge and patio). On the high floor where my room was located, the wi-ifi was shaky, but it was pleasant to work downstairs.
There are many pluses to the hotel: a truly beautiful pool, a good restaurant, an amazing breakfast with many local specialities, included with the room price. The outdoor restaurant/pool area was wonderful, with tropical plantings and exotic birds on the scene. I found the staff extremely helpful, taxis were easily available downstairs. The room was lovely, and again, with a local flavor; mahogany woodwork with a real Colombian feel, not the cookie-cutter "international" hotel style I'm used to. The room was very clean and extremely quiet. (Again, I was on a high floor -- with a spectacular view!) There was slight odor in the room that may have been a cleaning fluid, neither pleasant nor awful.
All in all -- I found myself enjoying the restaurant, the outdoor area, and evening dips in the pool more than I expected to on a business trip.

I stayed here because our Medellin customer suggeted it as a calm, quiet yet well located hotel. The service was great, the room clean and quiet, maybe my only complaint would be that the wifi at my room was a bit on/offish. Good food, good bar friendly staff.

The Hotel steal money on your check-out.
The Hotel Belfort DanCarlto STEAL and OVERCHARGE your bill of 10% !

In Colombia Foreigners are exempted to pay the local VAT (IVA).
The VAT or IVA which is 10% had always been deducted from my check at every hotel i have been all over Colombia and stayed at a lot of hotels like Radisson, Intercontinental, Categoria Diez, Park 10, Movich, even smaller hotels not part of a chain.

The Belfort Dann Carlton refused to deduct the VAT.
In colombia there is a LAW that states that it has to be deducted for foreigners not residing in the country.
The clerk, the managers and the accountants seem to completely ignore the law or think they can act above the law.
The result is the tourist is paying the VAT.
The hotel or Hotel Staff are then taking that money for them as it will not go to the government.
So the Hotel is stealing both the Tourist and the Government.
Such Practice is totally unacceptable.

The pool and Jacuzzi are Nice.
In the picture they look fabulous.
But when you get there you realize that there's a giant condo building in front of it, overlooking the pool. There's no scenic view at all. because of the misleading picture, it SUCKS, you are deceived.
The restaurant menu seems to be very complete with a broad range of international choices. Unfortunately the chefs have no idea how to prepare Italian or international food. I'd been served a beef carpaccio, the meat was still frozen, DISGUSTING.
The food is overall deceiving to unacceptable.

The rooms and furniture look old. Considering the price of this hotel, you better of choosing another option when staying in medellin.

Room Tip: We had 2 rooms, they looked exactly the same : Terrible.

The hotel Belfort is situated in a good place for the Centre and also Poblado area are just a quick taxi ride away. We had a Junior Suite was 2 weeks and found it to be very clean and comfortable with good views of the City. The hotel staff were very friendly and helpful.
The Belfort has a rating of 5 stars and although this is a nice hotel I wouldnt warrant all 5, but then again it also costs a lot less than your average 5 star hotel too. Breakfast was good also, frash coffee, chocolate and juices daily with a chice of local foods and cooked eggs etc, suficient.
I would certainly recommend the hotel to collegues and friends.
