“A little artistic gem of a hostel!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 12, 2013

You'd never guess from the outside of the building that a lovely hostel full of art and with a lovely interior courtyard is hidden within. Staff are extremely friendly and helpful, everyone speaks English and the interior courtyard is relaxing and comfortable. The owner is into artwork and the hostel is filled with interesting and eclectic pieces. As a hostel manager myself, i'm pretty hard to please but I cannot say enough great things about this hostel. Location is in a safe part of town, with many nearby restaurants and bars and about a 10 minute walk to the metro.

I had never stayed in a hostel before. I'm not your average age for choosing a hostel so I booked a private room with bath at the Urban Buddah. I was not looking for a big party atmosphere so this worked out great. The Urban Buddah is centrally located in Lureles with many restaurants, grocery stores, banks and attractions close by. My room and the hostel was simply appointed, clean and with a comfortable bed. The staff was very accommodating and friendly. I will stay there again when I go back to "The Land of Eternal Spring".

I stayed 3 nights at Urban Buddha and it was a great, chilled out time. The group I was with cooked each night in the great kitchen and hung out in the awesome common areas plus watched the occasional movie in the front room.

The dorms are an ok size and the beds are comfy, bathrooms are separate.

The staff members of the hostel are amazing, super helpful and have the best breakfast I've had in South/Central America ready to go each morning.

I guess the negative from being so chilled is that Urban Buddha is a bit away from the train (around 20 minutes walking) and cabs have trouble finding it (although cab drivers in Medellin are generally useless, they have no idea where anything is). Overall once you get to the hostel though its not a huge problem, maybe a slightly larger sign out the front would be a good idea.

I felt spoiled after spending over a week at Urban Buddha. The staff is EXCELLENT - nice, professional, and always responsive. The hostel's furnished with a funky, eclectic vibe, and it's always kept very clean. I preferred its location in Laureles to El Poblado; not as much party, but walking distance to metro (via Estadio station) and several delicious restaurants. My only gripe is the lockers aren't sturdy, but I never had a problem with anything missing. I extended my stay twice - I didn't want to leave!

We came here because we saw the many positive things on tripadvisor.
And we weren't disappointed. really nice staff.
Extremely nice atmosphere. Some of the art work made me remind of the milk bar in clock work orange. Beds where the most comfortable that I ever had and breakfast was nice as well.

The only thing you should know is it is easily a 15 to 20min walk from the metro.

Can't say anything bad.
Maybe make the price of the drinks more economical.

I first stayed in a hostel in Poblado but didn't really feel the vibe there so I decide to move to a more authentic neighborhoud and picked Urban Buddha in Laureles. One of the best hostels i've ever been to in a house with unique architecture and a nice patio full of local vegetation. This gives this hostel a peaceful atmosphere in the heart of beautiful city of Medellin! The neighborhoud is central with everything you might need at hand (bars and restaurants) and with la 33 & 70 calles (with vibrant nightlife) 5-10 minutes walking. El Poblado is still close in case you need to go there since a taxi-ride is about 10-15min and costs 3-4$. Didn't even mention the staff yet whose very friendly and always ready to help. Definitely a great place to socialize and the music makes it for a delightful atmosphere!

A charming oasis in frenetic Medellin. A delightful patio with a little pond, quirky art throughout. Ana Maria makes killer breakfasts. Staff helpful with cabs & advice about what to see. A guard outside at night.
