The renovated 1950s house, an old mansion with an amazing kitchen, turned hostel and in progress art gallery, is awsome! Innovative, edgy, re-energizing, a great place to chill. Located in a quiet, residential neighborhood, you can find restaurants and supermarkets nearby, a taxi drive away from Poblado and Santa Fe. If you're up for it, you can take a 20 minute walk to the nearest Metro Station. The best part is the very friendly and knowledgeable staff. Did I mention the kitchen? You gotta to try Mariano's home-made delicious dishes. Beats eating out anytime.

Stayed at urban buddha for three nights in Oct 2011 and had a great time. Mariano is a fun host and the place is nicely refurbished and has a cool relaxing atmosphere. Best was the paragliding trip they organized for us. Definitely recommendable hostel if you are looking for a nice, clean place in a fairly central and save location with a cool atmosphere..

The Urban Buddha is a relative newcomer to Medellin. It is located in a really nice neighborhood, quiet, clean and convenient. If you're looking for action outside your door, look elsewhere. But if you want a nice place to hang and explore Medellin, this is it. The hostel is located in a 1950's art deco home. They're still working on it a bit but there's a nice large shared kitchen and a nice TV/game room. We had a double with shared bathroom on the first floor. This room picks up any noise on the main floor, upstairs might be a bit quieter. However, super nice mattress, perhaps the best we've experienced in 4 months of travel. Also, check out their other property just outside the city, Secret Buddha.

The Urban Buddha is everything its name suggests – edgy, sophisticated, relaxing, and nourishing. My friend and I passed through Medellin for what we thought would be one night and ended up staying three (!). And it was all because of its warm owners and the Buddha’s inviting community made up of staff, friends and fellow guests.

The place is clean and a feast for the eyes. It’s well located but also a refuge…it’s definitely an escape from the ordinary. The owners, Mariano and Martin, are welcoming and easy going and you feel like you’re at your much cooler home away from home. It’s well staffed so there’s always someone to help recommend local attractions and they even organize local tours (I had to leave early but my friend went to Guatape and loved it!).

The highlight of my stay, however, was the food. Mariano cocina BIEN. Breakfast was out of this world and featured a fruit smoothie, this incredible oatmeal-granola concoction with fresh fruit, and an egg frittata-esque dish. Divine. For dinner, we savored a rich paella meal replete with fresh vegetables and red wine. Another night, we received a private cooking lesson and learned to make ceviche and patacones. And more than just the food itself, guests from around the world lingered and conversed and bonded in a way not possible in even the best of restaurants.

Urban Buddha rocks- you’re cheating yourself if you don’t stay here. It’s clean, safe, beautifully decorated, and intimate. And affordable to boot!

We stayed at the both the Urban and Secret Buddhas whilst we traveled through Colombia.

This Hostel is unlike any other we have stayed at during our 7 months backpacking. This is not a Hostel it is a home away from home!!

The Urban Buddha is brand new, the rooms are a great size, so so clean, we stayed in a private room which had a great bathroom and actually had HOT showers - which whilst traveling through Central America was a pure delight!

The Urban also offers a great kitchen, awesome outside area for relaxing and meeting other travelers, a huge tv room with great beanbags and the retro feel of the property gives it a great atmosphere! The cost was great and the location perfect - try the Crepes and Waffles Restaurant around the corner!!

On top of the facilities that are offered, you also get the pleasure of meeting the owners Martin and Mariano and to be honest these guys were the highlight of our trip so far! One thing to remember is that when you get home its not the beds you slept in you remember but the friends you made and the memories you will keep for a life time and meeting these guys and staying in their home (hostel) was just awesome and we will remember them forever!!

Can't recommend this place high enough - you would be silly to stay anywhere else!

This is a new hostel in the Laureles area of Medellin. It is a residential area which is quiet at night. There is a little supermarket on the corner and some restaurants and bars around. A taxi to the Zona Rosa costs around 10,000 pesos and takes around 10-15 mins. The closest metro is Estadio which is around 15 mins walk away and takes you to the city centre. We stayed in the green room which is a private double with shared bathroom. The room was very nice. The sitting room is really nice with a wide screen TV, VCR and Playstation, however we couldn´t see any games for the Playstation. They have a very small book exchange. There are good size lockers in the reception. There are 3 common bathrooms. There is a common computer and a very good kitchen. When we were there they were still working on the laundry room and the garden. They have a really beautiful dog called "guapa" that is either in the Urban Buddha or the sister hotel Secret Buddha.
