“Nice place, nice staff”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 3, 2013 via mobile

This is a very nice hostel , a little off the beaten path in a nightlife district of Medellin. It is comfortable and clean, and the wifi works. What really made it stand out was the great staff. I found Camila and Milena to be espescially helpful during my stay. They are able to speak English , but they also know when to help the traveler practice Spanish. They have lots of good advice, and help you feel like you're staying with friends.

Stayed at this place longer than I originally expected to because it felt so much like a home away from home! Waking up every morning to the receptionists cheery voice, and usually following some advice of hers to explore medellin I had a great time. The general vibe of the hostel was a great balance, with enough quiet spaces but also spaces conducive to hanging out in groups/meeting people. Met some cool people and had some nice times at the bar, which is quiet on some days (perfect to have a nice conversation) and crowded on other big nights like the language exchange and karaoke night, which was frequented by lots of Colombians and gringos alike, making for a nice mix of people. Very importantly, the rooms themselves were comfortable - a little small, but nicer beds than most of the hostels I've stayed at in 3 months in Latin America. All in all, great time, great people (staff and most guests alike) in a great setting in an awesome city.

Room Tip: the Uruguay room was the best since it is relatively larger and has some privacy with the custom mad...

I have stayed at hostels all over Europe, but I felt the most at home at the Wandering Paisa. The staff is very welcoming and helpful in advising all of our travel needs (at all hours of the night)! The hostel was clean and there are hammocks! We met lots of interesting people from all over the world. The best was the open mic night!

Very solid place. The bar (and the bartender PJ especially) is the best. Nice themed rooms and great hang out areas. The collection of movies is great also. And Brent (the owner) is awesome! If you have time, make sure to check out some of the surrounding area. Most of Medellin's hostels are located in the much more tourist-centric Poblado district, but The Wandering Paisa's location in a more middle-class part of town gives a nice feel of what life is actually like in the city.

Room Tip: The privates are very nice, as is the Uruguay shared room.

I have traveled all over central and south america have stayed in my fair share of hostels. This is the first hostel I've stayed at where I actually could relax and feel at home. The inside of the building is super cool with lot's of amazing murals on the walls. Everything is very clean. There's even a bar, computer lab, and even karaoke and an open mic on two of the nights I was there. The owner, Brent, is from Seattle, WA. He was super chill and even too the time to show my friends and I a good night out on the town. So yeah, you can't beat this place. I had to give a shout out to Wandering Paisa.

Room Tip: It's all good

We stayed here by default, we had a booking at another hostel who double booked so we were sent here. Only stayed the one night and wouldn't recommend for people looking for a private room. It was noisy as our room was right next to the common area and shared bathroom. It didn't have a window so very hot and stuffy.
Kitchen ok. Hot water was good. Maybe a good place if you are looking for a dorm.

I stayed in this hostel for one night.
This is a nice hostel. It looks pretty good, showers and bathrooms are good and there is a very nice kitchen. The place also features a bar (though I don't think it is very popular).
The rooms are cool- each one has a theme of a different place in South America. They are spacious enough and even in the big dorm you can get a good night sleep.
Staff were pretty helpful and nice, we were looking for apartment and they helped us by searching the web and giving us phone numbers.
The location is the main disadvantage of this place. I read some people saying the area is cool by not being "El Poblado" (which is very western) but for me it was a weird spot. You don't fell comfortbale going out at night even though it supposed to be safe.
