“Nice Concept, Poorly Delivered”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed August 24, 2012

I booked the Art Hotel for a recent business trip to Medellin. The modern, hip, artsy concept is a great idea, but this hotel miserably fails to carry it out well. Instead, expect a small, dark room (mine makes me think of a prison cell) that is just way too HARD to be comfortable: cement floors, brick walls, wood blinds, and painted metal ceilng. The concept is so overdone that even the bed feels stiff. What they needed to do was mix it up a bit, and add some soft curtains, even a shred of carpeting to dull the reflective noises and make it feel like home. Even with every light on, and the small (again, prison-like!) windows open, you simply cannot find a darker hotel room anywhere. Additionally, the rooms are laid out very oddly, and there is very little storage space and even less privacy.

On top of that, the service is average, and on this trip the internet service has continuously worked for a few minutes, and then drops the connection. It is like CLOCKWORK - about 160 seconds and no more. It has been a major annoyance! I would NOT reccomend this hotel for business trips if you need any type of connectivity to the world. Maybe that just goes along with their "prison" concept??

While the public spaces are OK, they too cannot escape the dark, cold, hard feeling of this place. On a good note, it is in a safe, centrally located neighborhood, and the bar area serves decent drinks. But that's the best I can say. You can certainly do much better for this price in a city like Medellin!

Room Tip: Ask to be put away from a room facing the construction area on the building next door. Besides the...

Thanks for your review. Regarding the internet connection: we apologize for the inconvenience and decided to upgrade to a more powerfull 8 mega internet connection. As from this week on, it will be operational. The rest of your remarks are understandable, although essentially a matter of taste. Your suggestion of adding some carpets is interesting and in fact in many rooms it has already been implemented. We'll make sure that it gets extended to all of them.

We loved our comfortable 5th floor room at the Art Hotel (right below the amazing skyline-view roof deck!), the hotel's modern yet welcoming design, and it's location in Parque Lleras by tons of restaurants, nightlife, and the metro. But what really made the Art Hotel stand out was its staff, who went the extra mile in helping arrange everything from theater tickets to a restaurant excursion way outside the city. Highly recommend!

Service was very good - we could move rooms immediately when we found cockroaches (pl) in our room, they refunded me in cash, immediately the money they in appropriately charged my credit card for room service without my knowledge. I thought the breakfast was good and the decor appealed to my taste but there was no natural light in our room and air con wasn't working.

This hotel has great location 1 block from parque lleras which is full of restaurants and bars.
Service is also great, very kind from the cleaning ladys to the manager everyone was helpful and kind.
The hotel has a nice and clean decor. The rooms are a bit dark, and AC is a little slow but after some minutes the room was fresh and also has good beds to rest in.
The spa was also helpful as it has a sauna and jacuzzi which you can use at all times.
I´d go back to this hotel if the prices remain it was about $130 USD with taxes included for a superior room.
