“Good hotel, Great Service”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 14, 2013

Our journey started here in Cartagena and we are very glad that we picked this Hotel to stay in. They had arepas and fresh fruit every day with eggs for breakfast, the staff was extremely kind and accomodating, and they upgraded our room when we told them we were on our honeymoon. Great stay, beach front, shouldn't be missed.

Room Tip: Choose a room with a view of the coast!

The hotel is beautiful. The rooms are great, but as always, little thing a can make a huge difference. The room service stops at 10 pm.; they don't have coke in the mini bar, this was a big thing for me; I saw a lot of peruvian restaurants in old city during the day, so I want to have dinner at one of those restaurants. When I call the front desk for a recommendation, the girl give me a name, but it was a formal restaurant so I didn't want to Go there. So, I ask her for another one, and she said that that was The ONLY one in Cartagena. Of course I did my research and I find that there's 9 peruvian restaurants on The old city. So, finally, if you're paying almost 200 dollars per night, you expect a little bit more.

The hotel is good, the bedrooms are average size, the beds and pillows were very comfortable, partial view of the ocean from the room, The bathroom is good size but the toilet is located in an awkward place (within the bathroom). Wifi in the rooms worked OK, sometimes the signal was not strong enough. Free internet in the ground floor. The breakfast buffet was good with enough choices. Staff was attentive. There is a lot of staff just standing around in the lobby not doing much. Perhaps it was low season and not enough guests in the hotel?
The immediate surroundings is somewhat rundown (particularly the shopping center across from the hotel). A taxi to the historical centre of Cartagena was easily available and the charge reasonable and fixed.
The main commercial area in Bocagrande (which is walking distance from the hotel) has many restaurants, shops, banks, bars, etc but shows signs of not having aged very well. Many sectors are deteriorated (particularly some of the side walks and buildings).

Only stay at this hotel if you have to.
Although it is well placed on the beach, the hotel is run down with only the absolute basics (bed and table) in the room.
The staff is unfriendly and not too helpful.

I didn't totally love Cartagena, but if your coming here, this is not a bad spot to stay at. The service was great I will say. Everyone seems to enjoy their job and are happy to help you with whatever you may need. I have never seen better service at a buffet breakfast, which was not a huge spread, but has everything you need to get you going in the morning.

The pool is nice and is never too crowded, our room was plenty big and had everything you needed for a nice stay. It sits right on the beach, which normally would be great, but the hassles from the vendors on the beach make it almost unbearable, especially the massage ladies. Free and fast internet was great as well. All in all, no serious complaints, and I would stay here again if I returned.

Room Tip: The rooms with balconies are the nicest.

We stayed in the penthouse 2 nights. 3 bedrooms. bedroom 1 had king size bed and private bathroom. Bedroom 2 had 2 twins beds. Bedroom 3 had a bunk bed and a twin bed.
the beds are getting worn and need to replaced soon.
The staff is wonderful. Especially the security. The women behind the desk could be more forthcoming with the rates. Beware, don't put reservations under a Colombian name. Colombians get nailed with an extra tax. I put my reservation under my cousins name since she would be arriving before me.

If you absolutely need to stay on the beach or plan to just hang by the pool, this is a pretty good place to be. It's the only hotel in that area that is RIGHT ON the beach. Just a heads up on the beach scene, it's not that nice. Filthy and full of locals trying to sell you everything under the sun, and repeatedly. Back to the hotel. Great breakfast, clean, close to shopping and many restraunts. Other than breakfast, we did not eat in the hotel. The staff are very friendly and helpful. The reason for only three stars is to warn you of the beach. AND, we had one of the lower budget rooms which is supposed to have a view of the beach. Well, that view was a 45 degree angle looking out of very very blurred glass. Also after a couple days the air vent started leaking water on the floor. By the time we left, it obsorbed two towels and then some. With that said, nothing was bad enough for us to complain and I'm sure they would have taken care of us if we wanted to move rooms, but my point is, that room shouldn't have been used in the first place. For the price, probably worth it, but if we go to Cartagena again, we will stay in the old city and just take a cab to the hotel district by the beach if we feel the need to see the beach and touristy crowds.

Room Tip: Tell them you want a center room WITH A BALCONY.
