“Only if you desperate”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed March 23, 2013

Only stay at this hotel if you have to.
Although it is well placed on the beach, the hotel is run down with only the absolute basics (bed and table) in the room.
The staff is unfriendly and not too helpful.

I didn't totally love Cartagena, but if your coming here, this is not a bad spot to stay at. The service was great I will say. Everyone seems to enjoy their job and are happy to help you with whatever you may need. I have never seen better service at a buffet breakfast, which was not a huge spread, but has everything you need to get you going in the morning.

The pool is nice and is never too crowded, our room was plenty big and had everything you needed for a nice stay. It sits right on the beach, which normally would be great, but the hassles from the vendors on the beach make it almost unbearable, especially the massage ladies. Free and fast internet was great as well. All in all, no serious complaints, and I would stay here again if I returned.

Room Tip: The rooms with balconies are the nicest.

We stayed in the penthouse 2 nights. 3 bedrooms. bedroom 1 had king size bed and private bathroom. Bedroom 2 had 2 twins beds. Bedroom 3 had a bunk bed and a twin bed.
the beds are getting worn and need to replaced soon.
The staff is wonderful. Especially the security. The women behind the desk could be more forthcoming with the rates. Beware, don't put reservations under a Colombian name. Colombians get nailed with an extra tax. I put my reservation under my cousins name since she would be arriving before me.

If you absolutely need to stay on the beach or plan to just hang by the pool, this is a pretty good place to be. It's the only hotel in that area that is RIGHT ON the beach. Just a heads up on the beach scene, it's not that nice. Filthy and full of locals trying to sell you everything under the sun, and repeatedly. Back to the hotel. Great breakfast, clean, close to shopping and many restraunts. Other than breakfast, we did not eat in the hotel. The staff are very friendly and helpful. The reason for only three stars is to warn you of the beach. AND, we had one of the lower budget rooms which is supposed to have a view of the beach. Well, that view was a 45 degree angle looking out of very very blurred glass. Also after a couple days the air vent started leaking water on the floor. By the time we left, it obsorbed two towels and then some. With that said, nothing was bad enough for us to complain and I'm sure they would have taken care of us if we wanted to move rooms, but my point is, that room shouldn't have been used in the first place. For the price, probably worth it, but if we go to Cartagena again, we will stay in the old city and just take a cab to the hotel district by the beach if we feel the need to see the beach and touristy crowds.

Room Tip: Tell them you want a center room WITH A BALCONY.

We were at the Hotel Dann for 4 nights with a large group for my sister in laws wedding (not at the Dann). I thought the hotel was a great deal with wonderful staff. I can't remember all the women at the front desk, but they were always pleasant, helpful and welcoming. The pool was clean and refreshing. The rooms were well kept and quiet--with the exception of some street noise in the morning. Also, we had a jr. suite which was plenty of room for our family of 5. The kids also enjoyed the easy beach access. While it was a little rough for them to go out on their own, the waves were fun to ride. I would definitely recommend this hotel!

We hadn't originally booked to stay at the Hotel Dann, but after being ripped off by the Casa del Noble in Cartagena, we booked into this one.
We were not in the slightest bit disappointed. From the moment we entered the hotel, we were greeted warmly and welcomed into the hotel by all the staff at the front desk, bell boys, security and guest service people. The staff were always abliging, kind, helpful and went out of their way to ensure that our stay was relaxed and enjoyable.
The rooms were clean, cool and spacious. We had a room at the back with a stunning view of the coast, looking down to the old city.
I highly recommend this hotel. It is great value for money. The location is right on the beach, 10 minutes in a taxi to the old town, nice restaurant on sight and an excellent service all round.

Room Tip: Ask for one at the back of the hotel with the views along the coast.

The hotel looks very nice and has been recently updated. Our room was big, clean, and had a beautiful view of the bay. However there was a big hole in our bathroom ceiling and a couple of other little items showed that the maintenance is not up to par. The location is great; it's one of the very few beachfront hotels and just a 5 minute taxi ride to the old city. There are plenty of shops and restaurants within walking distance as well. The beach was very busy and filled with vendors so we chose to spend our time at the pool. The pool is lovely. Breakfast was good and plentiful with eggs, fruit, breads, and other hot items. As a sidenote, only juice is included and water is an additional charge. We were never told of this until we realized we were being charged for it at check-out.

It is a nice hotel, but I was very disappointed with our overall experience and their customer service. I feel like the staff is unethical and they try whatever they can to make another buck. Our stay was paid in full months prior to our stay, yet they tried to double charge us. We were also charged extra for "hotel security." I've stayed at many hotels and have never been charged for that. Why is that not included within the stay? Between trying to double charge us, the extra "security" fees, and not even telling us that the water at breakfast was an additional charge, we were very aggravated with Hotel Dann. It is a nice hotel, but we will not be returning.

Room Tip: Higher floors have better views.
