“Unique Hotel in a Beautiful Colonial Property”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 14, 2013

We love this place!!! It is going to be a year since we celebrated our Wedding at Casa Pestagua. It was wonderful!! We had the hotel for ourselves for the day before and the day of the celebration. We had guests from different countries staying with us at Casa Pestagua and we had an amazing experience. Everyone loved this hotel. Nayiby's service was outstanding. All the crew was extremely helpful and accomodation to all or our requests. We couldn't have been happier with our stay there and our overall experience.
The rooms are very comfortable, the service and the food is excellent and the hotel is located in the middle of the colonial area, which is the most turistic area in Cartagena. Interestingly it was very quiet and peaceful.
We cannot wait to go back and celebrate a future anniversary there.

I love this place! nayiby and her crew were spectacular. Great service. The hotel is mysterious, beautiful and authentic. I hosted my family and friends for my wedding here and they loved it. I also had my rehearsal dinner and wedding here. I definitely recommend a stay here.

What a breathtaking property! The location is fabulous, service outstanding and such a beautiful spot to enjoy our first night in Colombia.
The front desk staff were very helpful and Claude the owner spent a lot of time with us explaining the history of the casa.
I would highly recommend staying here.
Breakfast was great as well, and in such a beautiful location.

The other reviews describe this property very well. It's old, majestic, impressive, beautiful, charming, very centrally located with some issues that one would expect of such an old property. Plumbing was slow and you are encouraged to toss your TP rather than flush it and the shower didn't drain as quickly as one would like. Out of our group of 5, 2 of us had plumbing challenges.

Since it was just our group of 5 staying at the time, the property was quiet. That's fortunate as I had the room located on the ground floor RIGHT outside the pool and a small sitting area. Had the hotel been busy, I'm sure that the noise would have affected my sleep as you can pretty much hear everything from this ground floor room. The doors to the rooms are all authentic wood and old so not insulated. Mine had no door knobs so had to be closed by pulling on the big brass key and my windows were covered by old, authentic wooden shutters that sometimes didn't open or close all that well. Besides, if I had opened them to let natural light in, everyone who passed by could have looked inside. So, I kept them closed which meant that I had no natural light inside my room.

So, if you opt to splurge and stay in this lovely property, just keep in mind that you'll enjoy a VERY authentic stay but not one that should be compared to a modern 5-star luxury hotel. I'm glad we stayed here as it truly gave a very authentic feel to our visit to Cartagena. I would not recommend this property if you are traveling with kids.

Room Tip: Avoid the room on the ground floor just outside the pool area and across from the sitting area. Can...

We stayed at Casa Pestagua for four nights during the summer. It is beautiful and peaceful, and was at one time the home of the Marquis. We loved the dining area for breakfast and for evening coffee, with falling ivy and outdoor ceiling fans. Our room was huge, but came with some old-building issues: a leaky wall-unit a.c. and one bathroom wall badly in need of re-plastering. However, old buildings are difficult to upkeep while maintaining their authenticity, and generally they do a great job keeping things clean and pretty, from the fresh flowers in the room to the delicious fruit bowl waiting for us on our first night. The staff is very sweet and attentive. We complained about our noisy air conditioner and they were fixing it within the hour; they were very helpful with dinner reservations, taxis and ordering a horse-and-carriage ride. It's a very romantic getaway!

Room Tip: Room 9 is quiet and spacious. Just ask if the bathroom wall has been re-plastered.

This is a elegant hotel with only 11 rooms. Our 2nd floor room (number 10) was extremely large (about 600 sq ft) with 15 foot ceilings, two ceiling fans, a great air conditioner and a huge shower area. Breakfast is served in a peaceful plaza in the shade of palms trees and there is also a small pool with lounge chairs. The room is furnished with antiques and the building is about 300 years old so it has a sophisticated charm. If you are not comfortable with old world charm, elegance and antique furniture you should stay elsewhere. This hotel gives you a real feeling of being in colonial Cartagena. The city streets and teeming with people at night but the hotel is a refuge and no street noise ever reached our room. Staff are polite and helpful with excellent English skills. This is a true colonial gem.

We went to this hotel for our anniversary and we could not have asked for a more romantic place to celebrate it. The place itself is a dream. As soon as you walk in, you are greeted by a gorgeous cascading wall of ivy covering the dinner hall that overlooks the inner courtyard. The rooms are huge, the bed is comfortable and the bathroom is every girl's dream. Since the hotel is small and has few rooms, you practically feel like you have the entire place for yourself. This includes the big pool on the first floor and the rooftop jacuzzi overlooking the ocean and the old city. We were surprised by how quiet it was once you walked through the doors, in spite of the fact that you are in one of the busiest areas of the walled city. Great service, awesome location, and just overall gorgeous. We look forward to coming back!
