“AMAZING! Excellent location, incredible service, BEAUTIFUL!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 11, 2012

The photos of this place, as amazing as they may appear, do not do this hotel justice! From the moment we arrived, this was like something out of the movies. A huge wooden fortress-like door encloses this hotel from the old downtown city (which, by the way, is incredible). You knock on the door and someone peeks out through a smaller window within the door before offering you admittance... so cool! As soon as we walked into the courtyard, we were provided with fabulous blended cocktails (on the house). Our room was beautiful, the swimming area was private and pristine, the courtyard perfectly maintained with lush greenery everywhere. --This downtown is one of our favorite travel experiences, and the Casa Pestagua Hotel, is right up there with it. If I were to return to this town, I would most certainly stay here again, without hesitation.

When visiting Cartegena, don't miss the horse-drawn carriage tour of downtown in the evening. It's a lovely way to see this beautiful town.

The hotel is perfectly located, in the old city, everything is walking distance around. It is in old traditional house, beautiful, with gorgeous courtyard areas - one area has a fountain and the tables for meals, the other has the swimming pool. On the top there is a terace that has the whirlpool and great views of the town. The rooms are spacious and nicely arranged, invoking unique mood, not the feeling of a standard hotel room. the bathroom is large and beautiful. The service was exceptional; in the evening we arrived back to our room to find rose petals and candles decorating the path from the door to the bed. I would stay there every time.

The house belonged to a marquis, this hotel is a blend of history, elegance and sophistication. The room was spacious and well decorated, but the terraces are a dream, the pool, the hanging plants, their little secrets like a dinning room in a wine cellar.. everything.
The service is excellent, staff friendly, helpful and always willing to help. The breakfast, terrific both the food and the place where it’s served. Not cheap, but if you want to take a whim, this is the place.

This is the third time I have been to Cartagena, and it is a wonderful old city to visit. So charming, very safe, wonderful museums, shops and restaurants. Casa Pestagua is a great home base to explore the old walled city. It is a small hotel, so it feels more like you are staying in your own private residence. We had a very large suite, with a massive marble shower. Very clean. There is free wifi in the common areas of the hotel, and a small spa which I didn't check out. The breakfast that is included was delicious, with fruit and pastry basket, and a Columbian specialty, egg and meat arepa - yum! In my opinion, this is a place to stay if you really want to stay in a place that feels like the old Cartagena. There are many great boutique hotels in the city, but some are very modern and feel more like Miami. The staff was very helpful and gracious. Jorge personally escorted me to a cash machine the first evening I was there, and to a private house where some friends were staying. That's service!

Casa Pestagua exceeded our expectations. The staff was so helpful and courteous. It was remarkable how well run the hotel is. I never saw a staff work so hard to make our stay exceptional.
The location is perfect! You can walk everywhere from the hotel. There are many great restaurants to choose from: 1621 at the Santa Clara was outstanding, Don Juan was wonderful, El Santisimo was good, and I would stay away from La Vitrola. The food was mediocre at best. Both my husband I did not feel good after eating there. We had a lunch at Mila Pasteleria which was delicious.
We explored all the museums, the fort and La Popa. We used several guides William Ortega williampajaroortega@hotmail.com, Angel Gomez Cantillo angelgomez2003@yahoo.com and met Johny Johnythe guide1@hotmail.com.
Never once did we feel unsafe. The Colombia people are very warm and friendly!
We will definitely be going back and of course staying at Casa Pestagua!

Room Tip: We stayed in the suite on the top floor. It was quiet, the room was huge and it had an amazing bath...

We simply loved our stay at this hotel. It´s very charming, quiet, clean.
Its location is just perfect, right in the middle of the historic town. You can basically walk everywhere from it. There are nice restaurants right in front of it, which was a plus when we were tired of walking and exploring the town.
The staff is very polite and helpful. We were treated really special.
If we ever go back to Cartagena, which is a very charming and interesting city to visit, we will definetly stay at this hotel again.
