“Beautiful, magical...but sadly overpriced.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 2, 2007

The Agua is not a B&B. It is a very stylish, beautiful boutique hotel in a stunning colonnial house. I believe it was one of the first boutique hotels in Cartagena and with few rooms it doesn't have to fight for custom....which is its main problem. It is far too expensive. Having come in from much cheaper Bogota, Cartagena knows the Americans are spending and if you want to stay within the lovely old town there are few other comparable places to stay.....but things are changing and a fair few other beautiful buildings have been restored and are now great boutique hotels. The staff at the Agua are really fabulous, breakfast under the white, palmed arches starts any day as special and the resident labrador appeals to any Brit!...the place is so tranquil with a stunning pool/ roof terrace but the feeling of being fleeced really spoilt it.....a small bottle of water (& you need lots in the heat of the day) sets you back $1.50...which goes a long way in Colombia. If you are thinking of visiting their new sister hotel on Baru Island.....see my review of that.

The place it's absolutelly beautiful, it's a nice colonial house, with a great pool on the roof. The rooms are very big and neat, and the breakfast is delicious (make sure you get hungry after 8 am, because that's when they start serving breakfast !!!)
However you are paying almost US$400 for a hotel in Colombia!!!! give me a break! this is not Paris or Central Park! and if you ask for water, they are going to charge you for it!!! come on! if you are paying this amount of money you really expect a five stars service.
Cartagena is an amazing city, plenty of nice B&B, houses for rent and 5 stars hotels, so why to charge so much when there is not a noticeable difference????

Though it's called Agua Bed and breakfast this lovely boutique hotel is as luxurous as it can be. It has 7 rooms, and a lovely terrace with a smal swimming pool and beautiful sight seeings.
The staff is GREAT especially Sergio, the manager.
We also enjoyed a womderful massage and of course the best is the breakfast which must be enjopyed with plenty of yime.
