“Great View”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 21, 2014

This is a worth while stop. The view from the top is fantastic. You get almost a 360 of the city.
The Monastery is also beautiful with a lovely courtyard all in bloom with bougainvillea in many different colors. There is a beautiful chapel with etched glass doors and a small museum area..
Beware of the vendors just at the bottom of the stepes to the Monastery. There is a fellow with a Donkey covered in flowers. It is a nice picture but he will expect to be paid

“Beautiful setting with great views...”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 18, 2014

Convento de la Popa is a beautiful setting that provides a look back in history of how life was in Cartagena. The church's golden alter is amazing. And, the interior of the Monastery with its arched brickwork and colorful plants along with grand exterior views of Cartagena is absolutely breathtaking. Another definate MUST SEE.

“View from La Popa”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 15, 2014

What an incredible view from La Popa. The history you learn is great, but getting a sense of where you are in relation to the rest of city is worth the time to get up there. The drive up will take you thru some not so nice parts of town, but it's worth the drive.

“Best view of Cartagena”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 21, 2014

From La Popa all of Cartagena can be seen from all sides and they are amazing! The monetary itself is beautiful and is well maintained with a very friendly staff. The chapel has one of the most beautiful alters I have ever seen.

“Beautiful view of the city and coast”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 13, 2014

La Popa Monastery is more than 400 years old and is nicely restored and in excellent condition. There is a wonderful view of the city and ports of Cartagena. One can only imagine how difficult it was to live so isolated from the city high up on this steep hill overlooking the city hundreds of years ago. The restored altar is stunning with gold leaf and red paint and contains statues still used today in parades on holy days.

There are a few steps one has to climb to get into the monastery so it is not wheelchair accessible.

The vendors are a little annoying but will sell you items at a very reasonable price and are very willing to bargain. This was part of a cruise excursion and was an interesting and historical place to visit.
