We booked the hotel after gettong a deal on Tablet, but it was still fairly expensive. The hotel definitely lived up to its billing though. The architecture is gorgeous and the pool was perfect for the very hot days. It is in the old city (where any tourist should stay) and everything is walkable. We had great meals at La Cevicherria, La Vitrola, Salou and Sibaris, which we could get to on foot. The hotel concierge was very helpful and booked us several dinner reservations in advance. We of course loved the resident toucan who kept us company at the pool. The room was great but the only minor complaint was that you could hear noises from the floor above you and around you in the morning. Also the fitness room had adequate aerobic equipment but only a few free weights with no bench to actually use them on. Overall small nits during a great stay.

I stayed here because of a conference I was attending.
Everything was very good, and the hotel is well located in the historic centre of Cartagena.
A must see are the Tucans that lived there .. they usually appears to your side while you are having lunch ... very prettty and different!

My wife and I stayed at the Hotel Santa Clara Sofitel, in Cartagena, in february 2012. It is located in the historic part of the town, surrounded by a great wall, built to protect the crown spanish gold stocks from the attack of pirates and enemy nations. The Santa Clara is housed in an old convent and many of the facilities is in the historic building. Many of the atttractions in Cartagena can be visited by foot, because there are many bistros, restaurants, shops and places of interest from a small distance from the hotel. The hotel offers butler service, witch can be quite usefull when there are demands that are beyond the usual. In my case, Mr Edwin, always kind and considerate, arranged some beautiful colombian flowers for our room as soon as we arrived. Besides, on the second day, after a bad night sleep caused by the noises coming from the swimming pool motors, I asked to change the room and I was prompty aswered. Another good point is that the hotel has a great spa, very modern and with a professional and helpful team. Breakfast is served in the saloon of one of the restaurants, where there is a well over four hundred years old, covered by a glass, witch leads to the living history... There are served various fruits, breads, sausages, cheeses, sweets and the famous Colombian coffee, which indeed is very good. There is also a small bistro that opens in the late afternoon, where is possible to drink a coffee or a cocktail in a pleasant environment. Following the spanish architectural style, there is large garden in the center of the hotel, with small areas with benches and fountains, something bucolic.

The hotel provide tours to the nearby islands and it's advisable to book in advance because of some rides that are made by boats, there are limited places. the tours include lunch, but are quite expensive, something around US$120 per person. Anyway, I think it is worth because the alternative would be to hire tours to the bocagrande beach, where the tourism harrassment borders the unbearable. Anyway, this is a hotel that, despite the big amount of rooms, it can provide a very personalized service. Returning to cartagena I will certainly stay here again.

The Santa Clara is impressive, a bit expensive but the story that harbor its walls and architecture well worth it. Everything in this hotel is special, its inside terrace that was an ancient cloister, the decor of its corridors, romos and details. The quality of the beds and pillows is great, has a nice gym and a spectacular pool so needed in this hot city. The food is of excellent quality, both in their breakfast as the restaurant service. Its location is very good and the staff is very kind, has a bar "coro" perfect for a cocktail at night with live music. This hotel is a perfect reflection of this amazing city.
