We got to Holiday Inn in Cartagena around 2 am on the 26th february all tired and sweaty driving all the way from Bogota. All good until got to speak to the receptionist. The guy did not speak english, and treated us like $#/#@. The guy gave us the most expensive room. We asked for a room with king bed and the receptionist guy was extremly rude and measuring us up and down like we were there to ask for food or someting. We are tourists, respectable couple, working hard and expecting to good services. We finally went to Las Americas hotel were we spend 4 great nights. I do not advise nobody to go to Holiday Inn -Cartagena... it will be a waste of time and money.

As most seasoned travellers know, Holiday Inns internationally are entirely different than Holiday Inns in the US. This one surpassed all expectations. Although it is out of the main area of town, it is quite and peaceful. A beautiful setting, wonderful pool, great staff and access to the beach. The hotel is well appointed and is extremely clean. Would definitely stay there again.

The resort is on a stretch of public beaches about 10 minutes away by car from old town. It's a modern facility with swimming pool, restaurants, and other amenities. The beach is quite lackluster but overall this is a good base from which to explore Cartagena. If your main objective is to explore old town (as it should be), I'd recommend staying closer to the walled city, either at one of the hotels within or by renting an apartment.

This is a newer property on the Morros stretch of beach outside the old town El Centro; this area is growing with a new Sonesta and a Radisson under construction. Cartagena is destined to become a more popular vacation destination for North Americans as Copa airlines this summer links more North American cities to Central and South America through a new hub in Panama City, Panana.

This property is attractive and clean and right on the beach; it has a very nice dining room and pool. This is a much nicer hotel than the Holiday Inn than may reside in your mind's eye. Room and bath lighting could be improved however.

Staff is very friendly and competent.

One comment to the hotel though, you do your staff a grave disservice by not including a service charge in meals and drink tabs. Virtually every restaurant and bar in Cartagena adds a 10% gratutuity (which can be removed easily if the service is under par). Many guests at the Holiday Inn Morros do not pick up on this no tip fact. This is unfair to the staff, particularly since Europeans, who are accustomed to an automatic service charge, are notoriously bad tippers left to their own devices. Holiday Inn needs to get in line with the rest of the Cartagena hospitality industry and add a service charge for the benefit of its hardworking staff.

I would recommend this hotel.
