“Great location in Getsemani”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed May 20, 2013 via mobile

This hotel is slightly more expensive than similar alternatives but is a safe option to book online - What I found most annoying when staying here was every time I left my room, whether for 5 minutes or 5 hours the staff had entered it to turn off the aircon, this happened constantly, I also went to get a takeaway coffee at 7am on the day I was checking out to come back ( their complimantary coffee is instant) a few minutes later to find that in addition to finding the aircon had been turned off all of the bed linen and towels had also been removed from the room which with a 1pm check-out time is a ridiculous policy

Lovely staff who are very helpful; rooms a bit basic but perfectly adequate; slightly expensive given that they don't offer breakfast. Re location, it's some 500 metres from the historic and there are plenty of bars and restaurants on the doorstep.

I would definitely recommend this hotel if you are not looking for a 5 stars hotel...It s very close to the old city and not far from Bocagrande (Big Mouth) area contains the bulk of the city's tourist facilities, such as hotels, shops, restaurants, nightclubs and art galleries...

Its clean but the staff have no idea about the tours around the city. If you want to go to Islas del Rosario or Playa Blanca please buy your tickets directly in the Muelle la Bodeguita. And if you have chance to stay at one hotel or hostel inside La ciudad amurallada its much better.

I booked the hostel online and at that same time I had to pay for the room. When I arrived they did not have my reservation, had no room and so far until today I haven't received my paid money back!! The staff was not helpful with looking for another hostel either.

I would recommend this as an affordable alternative to overpriced options in the walled city.

I found this place in the lonely planet and was very happy with it. All the places in the old city (inside the wall) were in the $200/night range, but got only so-so reviews on trip advisor. This place is ~$100 per night, and just a few blocks away from the walled city. it's also right near the famous Cafe Havana, and it's still in the old part of the city, just not inside the wall.

I would consider this place a semi-budget option. The service was very nice. The rooms were simple but comfortable. The place was clean although far from spotless. They don't give you shampoo so make sure to bring your own. The A/C worked really well. There was no hot water which was kind of a bummer because it definitely cools down enough at night in Cartagena in November to want at least a warm shower. We had room 6, which was pretty quiet A lot of rooms look over the courtyard, and I would imagine would be a bit noisy when people come in and out, so it's worth verifying which room you are booking. That said, the place seemed very quiet - it's not a party hotel, so even when guests came in and out it seemed quiet. There is a kitchen which we didn't end up using, but it was nice to know we could have stored drinks in the fridge.

We reserved our room on Orbitz, but we discovered that the hotel rate was actually cheaper than the internet prices, so it's worth double checking before booking.

As a related note for Cartagena, be aware of what you are getting when you book the 42.000 COP trip to Santa Marta. It includes a long stop at the island with the aquarium, which is annoying, or else you have to pay another 20.000 COP to go snorkeling. Those tours are a bit of a racket, unfortunately.

Stayed at this hotel in Cartagena as typically, the reviews more or less stand up to be precise. However, there's always the exception right?

Now although I can't fault the staff, the service was great - the reason why I wasn't left satisfied was because the room had Mosquitos flying around and the bathroom was rather dingy, not to mention the fact that the shower didn't give out any warm water. However, I could potentially forgive the hotel for the reasons above if they just invested in mattresses that contoured around my body. These beds were amongst the worst I have ever encountered and the outcome was 2 nights off little sleep and plenty of aches and pain in the am. Ouch.
