“VERY SPECIAL AND UNIQUE”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 31, 2011

Monte Sacro is one of the finest places to eat in Cartagena, Colombia. The food is excellent, the service is very good and the location is the best.
Highly recommended. They have live Cuban music on weekends.

“good fish dishes, nice balcony looking over square”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 15, 2011

We tried calamari as an appetizer and it was a little chewy, we also had Capresa Salad which was very good. The two main courses we had was corvina (fish-sea bass). Both were excellent. Perfectly cooked and tender. Good wine and outdoor seating on a balcony that over looks the square and small streets full of horse drawn carts. Well worth a vist.

“Best meal, best service, best value in Cartagena”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 8, 2011

We stopped here one evening after 3 nights of "failures" in Cartagena. The upstairs deck overlooking the Plaza looked appealing. The temp and humidity were high so we almost decided to eat inside (which was sleek, very clean, and COOL. However, the view from the deck was so appealing that we decided to try our luck there. Multiple overhead fans were sufficient to keep us comfortable. We ordered Mojitos (the best we had in Cartagena) and two different kinds of ceviche. Both were beautifully presented, fresh, and delicious. Our waiter was attentive, friendly, and efficient. We so enjoyed our meal that we were tempted to come back but thought we should give some other restaurants a chance. Too bad. Nothing else came close. We returned for the menu executivo our last afternoon (fixed price lunch) and enjoyed the best tomato soup I've ever had as well as fish, potatoes, and salad which were all simple but well prepared (at under $10.00). This was definitely our favorite place in Cartagena.

“leaves something lacking”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed June 9, 2011

The location here is pretty nice overall, on one side of the Plaza Bolivar across from the Inquisition Museum (unfortunately it stinks of horse dung at the entrance, as carriage drivers for some reason tend to stop here). Ambiance within is good, as is the food quality with some exceptions (calamari 3 ways, "recommended by the chef," is heavy, plodding, and unimaginative). But the cocktails are middling and the service is slow at best and infuriatingly rude at worst. There is a "call your waiter" push-button system at each table that generates exactly NO response, and inquiries about the food receive unhelpful replies. Furthermore, the servers create the impression that the chef and bartender are inflexible automatons, and overall there is cynical inhuman element that pervades the place, although if you dine here only once you may only see the good side (this review is a summation of too many trips back).

“Great food, Great Atmosphere, Great Experience....twice so far”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 13, 2011

Really great atmosphere inside, candles, beautiful lighting level and tables. they also have a small sitting area white leather sofas for drinks before dinner, accented with the color orange. We sat both times outside on a beautiful second level deck overlooking Simon Bolivar Square, cooled by ceiling fans. There is a nice three piece music trio playing quietly outside on the balcony. Service is perfect because each table has a button, something like a doorbell size on the table, when you need your waiter, just press the button, it rings (or actually it lights up at the bar), so you never have to flag down your waiter, or have them hovering over you. The food is to die for, we have the chicken wrapped around ham and cheese with a beautiful salad of fresh lettuce, tomoatoes and mangos with a perfect dressing, the bread is fresh and warm. Wine selection is heavily weighted for red wine, and we drink white, but had no problem selecting a great wine at a reasonable price. It is definately our favorite in Cartagena. We just sat on the balcony, outside sipping our wine listening to the music quietly playing in the backround saying over and over, 'we just love this place'
