“Hidden gem in old city”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 6, 2014 via mobile

The casa Santa Ana was a recommendation from a fellow Colombian. 5 unique rooms in a home setting with 5 star attention to details and amenities, and a wonderful, warm staff. Roof top pool topped off the experience. A peaceful setting within the best and busiest part of the old city. Highly recommend if you don't want to stay at a big formal hotel. The casa doesn't even have it's name on the door.

Casa Santa Ana, very near the Plaza de Trinidad, is a diamond but not in the rough.
Their biggest asset is the staff. They are very attentive and caring. I can't remember my own name ( I use my middle name in latin countries), but they did. A very nice touch. Neighborhood, by my standards, is safe and personal. The square, 50 feet away, is a serious hangout for locals and extrajeros. What would make it better? More in-the-shade out of the room hangout areas. The lobby does not work for this; it is too public. The Spa effort should be dropped. Just not quite right. And off-season pricing should be more flexible. (It is overpriced, except when it is not, as in the high season.)

Exceptional welcome. Rooms comfortable, clean and individualized. Overall the hotel is charming and well groomed. The pool on the roof an agreeable place to relax and cool off. The staff is very helpful and friendly. Not to forget the cute turtle.

My wife and i stayed here for 4 nights and found it to be great. The staff were warm and welcoming and offered great suggestions for activities and dining in the surrounding area. We thought that the location was ideal. The surrounding area offered a genuine feel for the culture while being situated within a comfortable walking distance to the walled city. We liked it so much that we would not even consider staying anywhere else on future visits to Cartagena.

Simple rooms but well kept. The staff is very friendly and warm which makes for a very good experience. It is very close to Plaza Trinidad which is lively, safe and filled with locals.
A lovely rooftop pool to cool down in the hot afternoons.

Wonderful hotel in a mixed area. Can feel unsafe. Hotel is charming but overpriced. Staff is great which makes its drawbacks unfortunate. Also not well marked & hard to find by car or taxi. It is a 15 minute walk to old city. It is a lively neighborhood with a local feel.

I had first booked to stay one night, in the beginning of February 2013, at this beautiful house. I was so pleased with my stay that I booked for another two nights when I returned to Cartagena, one week later. This is definitely the best boutique in the city. (And trust me, I am supposed to know, being the owner of boutique hotels in Granada, Spain.). I find the location in Getsemani, very exotic and very much "old Cartagena", which all adds to the experience. The other districts in inside the walls, are more "clinical" and touristy. Getsemani is better, more colourful and within walking distance of it all. Just around the corner from the hotel you find a wonderful latin bar with live music and dancing "Cafe La Habana". Great "vibe", great drinks and wonderful atmosphere.
Back to Casa Santa Ana....The staff are great and very good suggesting sights to see; restaurants for every taste and valet. They make you a list of places that will last you a week to visit! Breakfast is included and is served in the lush patio; all a la carte and cooked a la minute. Could not be better! They even have a small dipping pool on the roof to cool off.
If you have the budget for it, I suggest you book the Jr. Suite. For a little extra you get a lot.
Enjoy!!

Room Tip: THey only have 6 rooms, but I would chose the Jr. Suite. Lots of space and lovely interior design...
