“Amazing luxurious experience for a great price”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 7, 2013

This was a stunning boutique hotel in the heart of Cartagena. It is in a mansion that is decorated with all kinds of cool, art deco artwork. There is a walkway with stones over a river and a beautiful backyard where breakfast is served. The room was amazing - we even had a loft in our room. It was basically the nicest hotel that we had ever stayed at. Like staying in a rock star's mansion. The service was great, too. We were treated with welcome cocktails and a tour of the facilities.

The best part was the rooftop pool which had views over the old city of Cartagena. The only thing that I was sad about was that it closed at night... it would have been awesome to swim in a night.
We had mostly stayed in hostels but we decided to treat ourselves to one night here.

Bottomline, if you want the opportunity to stay in a gorgeous luxurious hotel with a rooftop pool for only around 120 dollars a night, this is your chance. You won't regret the relative 'splurge' for this experience... especially with the 35 degree weather.

Room Tip: We chose an upstairs room with a small balcony opening onto the street and a loft - it was awesome...

I have been backpacking in Colombia, staying at pretty basic places. I decided that I would treat myself to a nice comfortable hotel in Cartagena. I went with the Lonely Planet recommendation and it was a great decision. The hotel itself is hardly visible from the street. However, once inside, it is a paradise. Indoor pools of water cascade throughout the hotel. The rooms are chic, stylish and spacious. The air conditioning is quite strong (a blessing for Cartagena) and there is a safe in the room. The private bathrooms are sort of outside/inside deal, and you shower under the sky, which is quite cool. There is a cool dunk pool on the roof top and breakfast (which is quite good) is in a nice indoor terrace. The staff are wonderful and were really helpful in making sure my stay was great. The only suggestion I have for the hotel would be to have wireless in the rooms (right now wireless only works in public areas)

Room Tip: If you want to have dinner at La Vitrola, the best seafood restaurant in Cartagena, get the hotel to...

First trip to Cartagena and absolutely loved this place! The people were friendly - rooftop pool was relaxing - breakfast was filling - and it was in the perfect location! We were able to walk to El Centro and also to a church at the corner (up just a block) in the evening to see locals visiting, performing, etc. There are restaurants, bars and "convenience stores" within a few blocks. This is more of a boutique type hotel - very nicely decorated! The only negative thing I could say is that internet connections were a little hit and miss.

I have been to Cartagena many times, but this is the best place I have stayed. What a great surprise!. Fantastic location, near the best places. A few steps from the old city. And if you what the tour to the islands, the dock where the boats go is near too.
Also the service was fantastic, the people so nice. My fly was at night and they stores my luggage and even lend me the keys of other room at night so I could take a shower.
The food is also delicious. All in all I recomend this hotel all the way. The only thing, is that is not a family hotel, this is a great place for couples. But of you have children is not the top choice. I went with a friend, and it was the best decision ever!

We stayed for one night before returning to the US. The hotel design is very eclectic and the grounds are beautiful. The rooftop pool is amazing. The service is very good. The location is good if you want to be in Getsemani, but is also a short walk away from El Centro and San Diego. Our only complaint is that some of the design features get in the way of functionality and comfort.

1. No internet available in all areas
2. The worst coffee ever in Colombia
3. The room is quite uncomfortable... The shower on one side, the sink on another, the wc room without A/C
4. No privacy... We could perfectly watch other's guests shower room from ours
5. Nevertheless, service is awesome, thanks to Amauri and Orlando and Rafael at the front desk, Jaffet serving breakfast! Thanks

We stayed here for 4 nights. I literally looked at over 20 hotels in Cartagena before deciding on Casa Lola. It is located outside the walled city but it is super close and easy wak and in the end we were actually happy we were in Gestemani as it forced us to explore more of the city and there are heaps of cheap eats and bars close by.

The hotel is very lovely and our room was clean and well styled. We were really keen to have a pool in our hotel as the humidity is extremely high and it's nice to be able to just chill out. The roof top pools are small but honestly they were perfect and have a great view.

The breakfast inuded is lovely - fruit to start and then eggs how you prefer on toast.

For the price I would highly recommend this. I really wanted to stay in the old town at the Softel originally however I checked this out when we arrived and whilst a nice pool it just doesn't feel as authentic as the boutique hotels and Casa Lola really made us feel part of the culture.
