Cafe del Mar sits atop the wall surrounding the walled city of Cartagena. It faces West, towards the setting sun. It is a restaurant and bar. It came highly recommended by my butler at Hotel Casa San Agustin. We were also advised to enjoy the cocktails and the view but to avoid the food, if possible.
We ordered a pitcher of sangria and sat along the edge of the wall, in between the canons. It is mostly outdoor seating because of the excellent view of the sunset.
The drink prices are somewhat high, but you're paying for the ambiance. Our server was excellent and very attentive. She even offered to take a picture of us with the sun setting behind us.
We ordered some appetizers that involved grilled chicken and beef. It was good and filling but not very flavorful. It was mostly just to absorb the pitcher of sangria.
Cafe del Mar is a must-do when in Cartagena. I highly recommend visiting for a nice romantic sunset. Get there a little early to get good seats and bring a good camera!
