“This is the hotel experience you should seek in Cartagena”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 4, 2013

There are lots of kinds of hotels in Cartagena, but in my opinion this is the kind of place you should aim for. It's beautiful, feels so Spanish and atmospheric, quaint, friendly, comfortable, with unique fixtures in every room and just enough character. The interior courtyard is gorgeous with a small swimming pool that as far as I could tell no one ever goes in.

It's in the middle of Old Town, bordered on one side by where you go looking at emeralds and on the other by the square and in yet another direction the area where the locals live. Cartagena's old town isn't that big so you're probably ok anywhere, but I REALLY liked this place. So much that after we spent a few days exploring the coastline toward Taganga and Tayrona, we returned back to this hotel.

Our only negative was that we *might* have left something in the hotel while traveling, which was not there when we came back. We are pretty sure this may have been taken by one of the maids, which they denied, but we can't be 100% sure.

Room Tip: We liked being on the third floor

After being suggested this place by our - erroneously overbooked - original boutique hotel, pretty much all of our expectations were met staying at this boutique hotel instead.

Initially we were sad to leave the lively Getsemani area for what seemed to be a bit more dull old city centre (at least at night). However it's a nice area to be as well. And Getsemani is always a quick walk away.

The hotel is great. Employees are very attentive. We had a regular inside room for the first night, just a room with a bathroom. But decided after taking a peek into one, to upgrade to a larger - street facing - room for the 2nd night. The larger room is actually 2 level loft, with the bedroom on the 2nd level. It's nice and spacious, at least twice the size of the regular room.
The included breakfast was good. One of the mornings it was made custom, and the other it was buffet style.

Room Tip: The lofts on the street side are not as noisy as you may think because of the double windows, and th...

If you want to stay in the old town and not to spend a fortune this is a great place to stay. Our room was clean and spacious, with good air conditioning. The shower was not great but worked well. There are a few rooms, around 10, so it's quiet and peaceful - we had an interior room behind the patio.

Staff were friendly and helpful. Breakfast is not great but definitively they are working on it. It was better than that described in other reviews.

Room Tip: Room 207 is bigger than others - faces the internal patio, not the street.

Having explored on foot many hotels in town, I chose Casa India because it was the best value/quality for money and the reception staff were terrific.

Not a modern, boutique hotel with form given precedence over function, the place maintains an air of its colonial past. Try to obtain one of the airy rooms facing the street with balcony.

Casa India Catalina is a great value at an excellent location right in the middle of Centro. The room was an adequate size, the bed was extremely comfortable, and the staff are extremely helpful. The wifi signal was pretty strong on any floor. The only thing I wasn't crazy about was the window in the room which faced the common areas so I could never leave it open.

What a beautiful city and this is a perfect place to stay to experience all it has to offer. I travelled with 2 teenage girls who had just completed an 8 week school exchange in Bogota. This is such a safe area and we had a great time exploring all the city has to offer from this well priced hotel. The building is beautiful, clean and we found Cindy and Donovan in reception to be friendly and helpful. It is a beautiful building and the pool and air con were welcomed by the girls on returning from their exploratory trips. There is a great place for smoothies just up the road

This hotel is located right in the heart of the walled city. Everything is but a few steps away, so you can soak up the unique atmosphere of the "pearl of the Caribbean" day and night.

The building is a beautifully restored historic colonial house and in the obligatory courtyard you will even find a little pool, perfect for a short siesta during the hours of the most oppressive heat.

Our room was not actually one room, it was a whole apartment, because we were upgraded - which is always a nice thing... We had plenty of space, a stereo sound system, TV, A/C, a dining area, kitchenette (but not much of equipment), two double beds and a little balcony facing the street. We were a bit worried that this would mean a lot of noise but thanks to an inner and an outer door it was one of the quietest places we stayed in!

The staff were all friendly, but to be really honest I must say that they were not too attentive (especially those attending the reception). No problems or serious complaints, though. The breakfast was good and sufficient - and we especially liked the local specialty we were given two of the three times we had breakfast there.

So, all in all this makes a really nice base-camp for exploring the pearl of the Caribbean, but don´t expect the staff to help you with any travel arrangements, information etc. They are not rude or anything, so don´t let that put you off, just don´t expect any extras (and don´t expect to be able to check in in time).
