Had a great stay at Nova sharing one of the double delux rooms on the third floor.

Pros:
- Located within a building compound, so it's quiet.
- good food and massage located in the surrounding neighborhood
- friendly staff and excellent travel advice and booking services

Cons:
- none

More like a guesthouse than a hostel, my husband & I stayed here for a total of 14 nights during our time in Chengdu which in itself should be enough of a recommendation! The staff were very friendly & helpful and had a more than adequate level of spoken English. They were hugely helpful in writing down various useful Chinese phrases to assist us in getting around on buses & taxis or ordering a meal out. We stayed in the mini double room with en-suite bathroom and although the room was very small, both the bedroom & bathroom were very clean, very comfortable and modern. Double bonus was the enclosed shower, a rarity in most hostels! We ate at Nova a couple times and the food was tasty however they tend to have more western dishes on offer than local Sichuan food which was a pity. Lastly, the hostel is located just off the main road which is great because it’s much quieter. It’s also about 10 minutes walk to Wenshu Temple, the cultural town and food square where you’ll find loads of local and cheap restaurants.

We rate this as one of the top hostels in China!

This hostel couldn't be more welcoming - it has a really great atmosphere as you walk in, and the staff are really freindly, helpful and happy. They can arrange loads of different trips/activites, and hopefully one day we'll be back here to sample a few more! If you've an early start you can pre-order (a delicious!) breakfast so it's ready for you in the morning. All the food is good and they have some tasty veggie options too.

The room was really small, but the bed extra huge and really comfy! The room and the bathroom were clean and they provided towels.

Got in around midnight and there were still guests in the lobby surfing the net and chatting outside. Mostly foreign guests with a few Chinese thrown in; a lot of young backpackers with a few older couples thrown in.

They have private rooms as well as shared if you're on a budget.

Pros:
Washing machines at 15 yuan per wash.
Computers in the lobby or wireless in the rooms.
Very relaxing lobby atmosphere; couches, tables, coffee, beer, people hanging out and exchanging stores and the like.
Very friendly staff, informative, and speak fluent English.
Northwest of the city center and easy to get around.

Cons (Not real cons but worth noting):
Wireless signal is sometimes spotty on the third floor (only a problem if you brought a laptop).
Our magnetic room key would need to be re-magnetized at the front desk every so often.

Overall an awesome stay. The place feels very cozy and welcoming. Would definitely recommend!

We stayed at the Nova Traveller's Lodge in Chengdu twice in March, with an interim night spent at E’mei Shan. Although we arrived at the airport, after an airline delay, in the wee-hours of the morning, the pre-arranged hotel van was there to pick us up and one of the hotel desk personnel helped us take our luggage into the lobby in the rain. The personnel were very friendly and most had good English skills. Our private room was cheerfully decorated and had a comfortable bed. The ensuite bathroom was functional, attractive, and adequate for our needs. Towels and linens were included with the room. The staff was very helpful when we needed to learn to use the laundry facilities, which included a dryer style that I have never encountered before. It worked quite well. The room heater offered sufficient heat for March, making the room very cozy. The restaurant in the Lodge had a limited menu, but we enjoyed the food there for breakfast which included several good western menu items and when we were too tired to go out in the evening. It also has an outside deck area, but it was not in use in March. It is great for anyone wishing to stretch their China travel money and have the more personal experience of staying in a hostel-like environment.
