“Hospitality brings this hotel up a notch”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 week ago

During our China trip, we stayed at several big name 5-star hotels but decided to try this hotel in Chengdu to cut costs. BuddhaZen was unlike any other hotel we've stayed in. The hotel is located in "Old Town" with a unique exterior resembling a temple. Because it is set within a courtyard filled with many stands selling local food, trinkets, jewelry, souvenirs, etc. there is limited access by car, and we had to roll our luggage through the courtyard a distance before reaching the hotel. There are also no elevators, but the bellhops were quick to assist us in bringing our luggage to our rooms on the 2nd floor. The setting is very serene & peaceful. In the evening, we enjoyed roaming around, browsing through the stands just outside the hotel, checking out Tibetan beads, local spices, and sampling steamed buns for breakfast. The breakfast provided at the hotel is very modest, not a huge selection. We also had a few plumbing issues in our room which were quickly resolved by the time we returned that evening. Although this is an older building, there are some modern touches for guest convenience. The hospitality of the staff was the best we received out of all the hotels we stayed on our China trip. We were warmly greeted when we arrived, and also when we departed. Thank goodness there was A/C, which some of the larger hotels did not have! Free wi-fi was awesome. The room was a little dark, but the beds were incredibly comfortable, and I fell asleep the instant my head hit the pillow!

I booked through agoda and paid in full Dec 3rd. Now March 21st, I get an email saying that Buddhazen will no longer accept my booking even though it was paid in full 4 months ago, and confirmed 3 weeks ago (for my visa).

It was "rejected" because they now have their rooms booked and no longer need agoda's help to fill their rooms. Now my family has to scramble one week before we leave to find a new hotel.

If you do book, make certain to get their confirmation signed in blood.

One night stay in this hotel on Oct2012.Walk about10-15min from subway
A little hard to find this hotel (i recommend to print or prepare a picture of hotel and chinese name of this hotel)
The room is good and clean, the accomodation is ok but for my room it's a little problem with window so the view outside my room is limit.

Breakfast has less item to select but it taste ok.
On the ground floor i heard a music from chinese instrument(sorry that i don't know what is it)so this make me feel like i 'm stay in the 100 years ago hotel.

This is an amazing hotel for people who are looking for a little extra traditional flavor in Chengdu. It is also in a great location in the pedestrian only bazaar around the Wenshu Temple. Great food and shopping is just around the corner.

Every part of this hotel is designed well, from the central courtyard to the simple classiness of the rooms. Bathrooms are large with really nice showers. The hotel is really well-kept. Rooms are super clean, amenities are nice, and internet is fast and reliable. Staff are generally nice and helpful, although not everyone can speak English. Considering how nice this place is, it is extremely affordable.

Located in a relatively quiet remodeled old town area next to Wenshuyuan Temple in Chengdu, BuddhaZen is arguably the best stop for tourists to Chengdu looking for something a little fancy and unique.

The breakfast buffet is included with the price of the rooms (starting as low as about 80$) and the food is phenomenal. The rooms are clean, the showers are to die for, the pillows are fluffy, and the staff speak English. This is a great place to stay for professionals or people with more expansive budgets looking to relax and enjoy the city without actually getting lost in it!

I usually stay in backpacker hostels, but if you are either flying in or out of Chengdu and you want to indulge for a night, look no further.

Hotel located at a square where there are local shops around . Staff at the reception were really helpful . We booked a superior suite room and it was nice with a separate sitting room . Only drawback is that it can be noisy as the room was facing the street . However as the night goes on and shops are closed it was quite . It was a Boutigue hotel and very orientally decorated . Breadfirst selection was good too . Highly recommend

This hotel is beautiful, all of the furniture and lay-out is in an old-Chinese style. We unfortunately had to be moved from here to a nearby hotel after only two nights due to large renovations at the hotel but because of this we received a complimentary upgrade. Our room was exceptional with traditionally styled furniture, large bathroom with bath (and hot water). The hotel is walking distance from the Wen Shu monastery and has a lot of great street food, small restaurants, shops, tea shops close by.

The staff were extremely helpful in general but especially when we moved hotels. The staff also had exceptional English skills.

Word of warning though, the hotel is actually in a courtyard which made it impossible for our cab driver to find so definitely opt for the hotel to pick you up from the airport.
