“Worse than expected, just an average Chinese hotel”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed December 29, 2012

I found some good reviews of this hotel, I expected a lot, but, my first impression of this hotel was terrible. When I arrived at the hotel, outside of the lobby was under construction, and the lobby was too small. However, building itself was good and room was spacious.

Breakfast was not that good.
Even though main restaurant on 3rd floor was big, however hotel provided a small room(maybe due to cold weather). That room was too small that lots of people needed to wait for their breakfast.
Restaurant was to open at 7:00, however, foods were not ready. Staffs served foods until around 7:20.

Service was not that good, The bathroom was not cleaned well and second day of my stay, staff did not make my bed neatly. Also, they only provided with Chinese TV Channels(NO satellite channels).

If I visit Qingdao again, I will try find another place that is better than average(as there are lots of fine hotels).

I don’t know where to start with this hotel, so I will just say what comes to my mind first:

We took the airport bus, #702 to Qingdao station (about 40 minutes and 20rmb each). Upon arriving at the station, where the driver of the bus decides that the middle of the road would be a suitable place to stop the bus and let all passengers claim luggage in the adjacent. I knew what the hotel looked like from Google Earth and this site, but I was unprepared for it to say Victoria Plaza/ Victoria Hotel both inside and out. We weren’t sure if that was the former name of the hotel or if they were in the process of changing it (and no one else was either).

Levels of spoken English among the staff vary, but you can count on them to be very low in comparison to other international chains in the city. It’s recommended to get them to write your destination on the card in Chinese and show that to the cab driver, depending on your level of Chinese. The staff at the front desk were pretty helpful, but otherwise nonexistent anywhere else in the hotel.

The hotel itself is impressive and a fair value. It is a 28-floor open atrium and every room gets it’s own balcony. The views from both were highly impressive in my opinion. Our room had a small kitchen and was quite large. The design is pretty modern, but it looks like the staff doesn’t put much effort into cleaning or maintaining the otherwise rather tasteful design of the place.

The breakfast is another review of it’s own. Love Chinese food? Rejoice. The buffet is vast and impressive. For the westerner, you will find yourself passing on most of the offerings, but there is some fruit and bread, along with some coffee too. I was excited to see three types of cereal, but there were no bowls or spoons to be found. I guess it was just there to tease us. Our first morning saw us sharing the breakfast area with someone’s wedding, which was perhaps the oddest meal I have ever had. We were unsure of where to sit, and staff didn’t seem to know much more than we did. The next morning felt much more organized.

Weirdness aside, we still loved it here and it’s a pretty good value for someone who isn’t overly pedantic or dependant on hotel staff to assist you in numerous ways. If so, there are other options in the city which seem to be much better suited. But for a semi-independent traveler who can at least memorize a few lines from a phrasebook and plan ahead a little, this hotel is a perfectly fine choice for your stay in Qingdao.

Room Tip: We were originally assigned to a room on the 8th floor, but we requested a higher floor, hoping for...

This hotel has pretensions to a higher rating than it deserves. The A/C does not work in the public areas making the lobby hot in the summer. I broke out in a sweat every time I had to go through there. The breakfast was honestly awful, one of the worst I have experienced in China. The atrium, where breakfast is served, is also too hot.

The suite room was okay but again there were some odd features such as the odd placing of the bedroom doors. It looks like this hotel was converted from serviced apartments. The views from the higher floors is good.

The location is good if you want to be close to the train station and the old German quarters. Caution needs to be taken as there is general confusion about the name between the new and the old.

the hotel is a good 4 star hotel. A nice location very closed to a beach of Qingdao and the old train station. The rooms are quite big. The staff is freindly and helpful. You need a bit of Chinese as the English is not so good. The price is amazinmg. I had a 55 square meter double room with sea view including 2 breakfasts for 700RMB per night. The breakfast is Chinese, so if you are only used to western breakfast, this hotel is not yours.
But the choices for breakfast is good enough. I never understand why people complain. There was vegetable, eggs, dumplings, meat, soup, fruits, tea and coffee. Good enough for a daily start. The rooms where clean, the air condition was proper working and we even used the travel agency located on the 3rd floor. They speak little English, We spoke little Chinese and so we organised a trip full of fun to Lao Shan

The hotel is average. Rooms and facilities are average. Breakfast is nothing to rave on about. However, our room has an excellent sea view. The only good thing is the hotel is very close to the train station, which is very convenient, but far from the airport.

the owner of this hotel, bernie primack was an arrogant man and the staff were lazy and unhelpful. I actually had to clean the toilet myself because it had pubic hairs under the seat, The owner struck me as creepy to be honest and made strange eye contact with patrons children on the few occasions i encountered him.
