“Nice, but a bit goddy and in the middle of nowhere”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 13, 2012

Stayed there for one night in January 2012. The hotel is brand new, and there is no civilization for the next 10 km, only empty houses, or so it felt like. The rooms are enormous, the breakfast buffet fabulous, and there really isn't anything bad that I can say, except that the lobby is waaaayyyy overdone. As the previous reviewer mentioned - the floor looks great, but the paintings on the ceiling? Cesar's Palace in Vegas looks tasteful compared to this!

4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 28, 2011

Residents of Shenyang, we chose a suite at this very new property to celebrate our wedding anniversary. The setting is magnificent and dramatic; the architecture attractive (though some exterior touches are a bit overdone); and, the idonterior decoration an ornate and impressive mix of European styles.

The lobby floor is made of beautiful marble pieces laid in an attractive pattern and boasts a vaulted ceiling with huge murals reminiscent of a medieval church.

Our corner suite, number 5033, included a spacious sitting room and huge bedroom, two large TV's, a great bathroom, and two small patios. The bed and pillows were fabulous! Air conditioning and ventilation were fine, but the mini-bar was not stocked and the jacuzzi in the bath tub was not working (or we could not figure it out!). The opening price of RMB1100 (US$165) , including breakfast buffet for two, was high for China but quite reasonable by expatriate standards.

Food: We ate dinner and breakfast in the western "coffee shop," though this is a bit of a misnomer since it is quite nicely appointed, offers both a la carte dining and buffet choices. We started with a fresh garden salad (served with a bland yogurt dressing---just add salt and pepper), then had lamb shank (excellent) with garlic mashed potatoes (not enough garlic and lukewarm at best), and salmon with a fabulous sauce, Our 2007 Nekeas Crianza, a Spanish Merlot at RMB250 (US$38), complemented everything with its silky texture, smooth and roundish flavor and long after-taste.

Breakfast was even better! The buffet includes both Western and Chinese favorites of all kinds (omelets, breakfast meats, dim sum), ripe fruit, freshly baked breads (including delicious whole wheat and multi-grain offerings). AT RMB95 (US$15), we would go back just for a nice Sunday brunch.

Regarding hotel facilities, the Business Center, a small exercise facility, and the bowling alley are open; everything else is still being outfitted. (Part of the soft opening, I suppose.)

Staff at the hotels friendly and willing to please, but English-speakers are in short supply! Many are green, and supervisors who have experience in hospitality and few and far between. (Another aspect of the soft opening?) Be patient and they will handle your needs.

All in all, a luxury property with minor start-up pains. If you can get a good room rate, it is well worth the stay.

Room Tip: Remind the hotel that they are joust opening, that not all facilities are available.
