“the one&only decent hotel in Changchun...”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 6, 2010

Been there already several times for business and once for leisure.
Although not matching the standard of the other Shangri-La hotels and being quite more expensive than other local alternatives it is the only one worth recommending.
On top it's something like a place to be in town. You gonna find there everybody you might want to meet and it features the best "club" for foreigners. But don't expect anything you'd call a proper club in Beijing, Shanghai etc. :)

I had no idea Changchun had such a nice hotel. This hotel exceeded my expectations in every week. Judging from the constant flow of people into the hotel and the uber expensive cars parked at the front door, this place is popular among locals and guests. I only found two down sides to this hotel: 1) the bathroom decorations were a little old and 2) there were not many restaurants next to the hotel.

I highly recommend the hotel!

This is a five-star hotel in an excellent location for tourism and shopping. A lot of life just out of the hotel although this means some noise if you are on a low floor. Room was first quality and breakfast had wide choices.

Excellent Hotel in Northern China. Everything First Class. Centrally Located. Outstanding breakfast selection (Western & Eastern). Very comfortable bed. ...

My only criticism is the lack of air conditioning whenever you wanted it. The weather was taking turns being warm - then cold. The a/c was not available through the night which made for an uncomfortable (stuffy) sleeping time - even with the window open. This was not unique to the room, but I was told was the condition throughout the hotel. The staff did try to minimize the inconvenience by transferring me to a room that had less sun during the day.

I would go back to this hotel.

This was my second trip up to Changchun in Jilin Province in the past 12 months. For those who don't know, it's cold during the winter in those parts and also the site of the 7th Asian Winter Games.

We were there for two nights and had the hotel arrange for a pickup at the airport. This is offered by many hotels in many cities throughout China. If your Mandarin skills are not great, don't know your hotel's Chinese name or haven't printed out the hotel's address in Chinese, this is an easy option although it can cost up to $50USD, a lot by local standards keeping in mind that I work for a Fortune 100 company and local maximum for hotel's is about $50USD.

This Shangri-La, like many of theirs in China, has been in place for some time, meaning more than 10 years, but like all of them, has been well-maintained and refurbished. Locals continue to come here to have tea, drink and eat which is normally a good sign that it has maintained its level of excellence within the city.

The rooms were comfortable and quiet with mini-bar and broadband. Check in and out was efficient and the staff are multi-lingual, primarily Mandarin and English although there was a strong representation from various European countries as well. We ate one night in the Chinese restaurant which was very good, our local Dong Bei respresentative happily ordering his favorites for the rest of us to enjoy. Location is also good for shopping and the hotel is centrally located, relatively close to the airport. One note, it was about $200USD/night which is more than I've ever paid in Shanghai or Beijing so that's to be noted. Otherwise, recommended.

It's a nice hotel consistent with Shangri-La standards. The fitness club (pool, dance studio, machines) and the locker area (shower, sauna, jacuzzi) are prime quality standard.

The location is great for shopping. Next door are shops for international top brands (same prices as international standard), a Wanda Shopping Mall and a Wal-Mart's among others. You may find Chinese souveniers at the retail outlets in these shops.

Many businesses have apparently set up offices in the hotel as there is a directory in the lobby.

There is a variety of international restaurants and we dined at the Japanese restaurant, but we found the quality just OK relative to Japanese standards. Perhaps some might find it better relative to Chinese standards?

I have stayed at this hotel once for a week. It is the perfect example of what the local people think of a 5 star hotel, complete with the Filipino band playing "Hotel California" in the lobby lounge. In any case you can't go wrong with this hotel. Some lucky expats actually live in this hotel, must be nice..
