“Clean and Comfort”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 9, 2013

We stayed for 2 nights at Grand Metro Park in Suzhou as part of the Shanghai - Suzhou - Hangzhou group tour. I was impressed by the hotel. It was nice and clean. The room was large even for 3 persons. The extra bed is comfortable although it's rather small. The room was well kept and had all required amenities. I liked the breakfast buffet. You can choose from both western and oriental dishes. So, in one short sentence, it's beyond my expectation.

We only stayed one night as part of a tour package, but even in that short time, we found the hotel very nice. The hotel is new and well maintained; the lobby, hallways and rooms were very clean and the rooms themselves were large and had all the necessary amenities. The small shops & convenience stores were quite well stocked with the usual drinks and souvenirs.

The breakfast (our only meal at the hotel) was excellent - lots of choices of both Chinese and western dishes, and all the warm/hot dishes were just that, warm and/or hot as they should be.

Since we were traveling with a group, its hard to comment on location, however Suzhou is fairly new and attractions are reasonably spread out, so I imagine a small amount of taxi/bus travel is required regardless of which hotel you choose.

I go to China for business every year and since the Grand Metropark was open I only stay there. It is extremely comfortable, the staff is always attentive and speaks good English and the food is excellent. Having stayed at other 5-star hotels in Suzhou, I can tell you this is at the top for amenities and price. I would recommend it to both business travelers as well as tourists.

Fantastic, high rise, modern hotel. We even had a clock in our large, luxurious, quiet room. At breakfast we had a choice of western and Chinese food. All service was prompt, appropriate and respectful.

Room Tip: no smoking floor

We stayed 2 nights with a tour group. Room was clean and modern. Sitting area with a TV that turns to face the bed also. Breakfast buffet was great and servers were attentive. Next there is a convenience store and Subway.

Room Tip: Front rooms have flashing colorful lights outside the windows

Always very nice. Staff is super helpful. Great location in the SIP. Dinner buffet is excellent. The hotel has a nice convience store and subway in the next building; which is nice for cheap beer and food. There is also a very good Japanese across fron the convience store.

Room Tip: The are a wide variety of rooms ask when you book.

Suzhou came with high recommendation. This time, the wife and I decided to look for a hotel instead of the youth hostels we usually stay at.

Grand Metro suprised us considerably. Close enough to the train station. We found the entrance to be standard for china.
The lobby was beautiful and clean. Check-in was pretty fast. We did not include breakfast when making a reservation, but the girl serving us recommended that we apply for "Heart Park Rewards" which allowed us a free buffet breakfast to have the next morning.

We stayed on the 18th floor. Elevators where clean, quick and they smelt pretty lovely too.
The room was spacious, fitted with a large sized sofa facing a flat screen television. Bed was big enough that I could move away from my wife who likes to slap my face in her sleep.

Bathroom was pretty large, set up with a 2 person sized bathtub. The water pressure from the shower was amazing (I questioned whether I'd be able to get out, but I eventually did).

Breakfast turned out to be great. Western Buffet with a wide array of juices were available. The only downside for me here was the coffee. It tasted as if someone squeezed roses into my cup. It both smelt and tasted like flowers. (yes, I've eaten a rose). I asked a waiter to get me another cup from the kitchen and this tasted much better. (it must have been the batch they had made and it obviously didnt come out right).

The hotel is pretty close to Guanqian Street where a walk for the day can be pretty therapeutic. The hotel is also cloase to Tiger Hill, which is highly recommended.
