“Lovely courtyard, central location, average rooms”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 4, 2013

We paid 430 RMB per night for a normal (smallish double room), without breakfast which was a bit expensive given the quality of the room (tiny bathroom). The room was quiet though, and the courtyards looked lovely, it's worth having breakfast (average) in the dining hall just to enjoy the view. The hotel is right in the centre of town, within walking distance of the Humble Administrator's Garden and other places of interest.

This hotel is clean and comfortable and it's right next to the pedestrianised downtown area, so there's plenty of everything right on the doorstep. It's a bit of a boutique hotel, with courtyards done like traditional Chinese gardens and so forth.

The bar is basically non-existent, but thee Are plenty of places right around the corner.

Best of all, it costs next to nothing --£25 a night.

The hotel is within walking distance to shops and restaurant and some tourist sites. Rooms are small but okay for the 2 of us. Clean and tidy also. The courtyard is quite nice set in a Chinese garden style. Not overly cheap, probably cheaper if you booked ahead on the Internet. staff minimal English. Don't book the tour they have on phamplet on counter unless you speak Chinese and want to be taken to ridiculous silk and jade shopping

I was very unhappy to pay 400 yuan to get a room that face a parking lot. So you should be specific when booking. It was pretty noisy next to the parking lot and the major street. the carpet in the room is pretty dirty. the garden is quite enjoyable. no wifi in the room. wifi can only be access at the lobby or the garden adjacent to the lobby.

We travelled with 3 other couples on our first trip to Suzhou. We travelled by train from Hangzhou and were able to secure a van at the railway station to take all 8 of us to this hotel. The local do not know it as Starway Garden View Hotel but as "Su Zhou Ren Jia". When we arrived, we were pleasantly surprised by its traditional layout with a garden in the courtyard. Checking in was fuss-free and pleasant. The rooms were comfortable and clean. In the evening (from 8 - 10 pm), you can enjoy Chinese music played in the garden. The hotel is next to 2 streets with a very wide selection of food and shopping. Wifi is not available in the rooms but in the reception area. The staff of the hotel can also direct you to places where you can get a body or foot massage at very reasonable prices. It is about a 20 minute walk to the Humble Administrator's garden and about 10 minutes to Pinjiang Road where the canals are. To get to Pinjiang Road, just the main road right in front of the hotel and walk straight on until you see the canals. It is a hotel that I would stay at again on another trip to Suzhou.

The hotel was a delight, very attractively built and decorated in traditional style, with garden courtyards. The room we had was very clean and well presented. The location is convenient, within walking distance of the most significant World Heritage Gardens. Staff were pleasant and helpful; those on the desk have sufficient English, and our more complicated enquiries were dealt with by the manager who had good English. The room price was exceptionally good value, but watch out for the cost of extras: breakfast was not included in the price; the laundry was too expensive and our clothes were not ironed. Nevertheless we would thoroughly recommend this hotel to other visitors.

The hotel is located in the very city center, besides the shopping district and within short distance of all attractions.
There is a parking area dedicated to hotel guests.
The hotel is nicely decorated and well maintained. It is build in a way of a traditional Suzhou garden with actual gardens in the center.
Amenities are good for a 3stars hotel.
Some rooms are not often used and are smelling like very humid. One aisle of the hotel (north) is much better with all rooms being very quiet and with no unpleasant smell ! In that aisle, ground floor rooms open onto semi private yards, which is really delightful.
Don't expect too much of the buffet breakfast which is offering a selection more suitable for Chinese guests.
