The airport pick up was quick and efficient, although the driver did not look too friendly. It looked like he was not happy being there.

When arriving at the hotel, there were no one to help us with the luggage. The driver just removed the luggage and left it at the driveway!

The check in was very smooth and the front desk lady was very efficient and friendly.

Although I requested for a non-smoking room, I was given a smoking room with a very strong cigarette smell. The room however was pleasantly clean and modern.

The housekeepers did an amazing job. The turn down, room cleaning, bathroom set up is as good as 5* hotel in a first tier city.

The restaurant was quite nice although the food was quite bad. We had dinner in the restaurant. The lamb was under cooked and had strong smell, the soup was quite tasteless, the fish was tasteless. However, the service was good. The breakfast was good.

My husband and I stayed here for 4 nights in Jan 2014 in order to see the Harbin Ice Festival. The room we had was spacious and very comfortable - ideal to come back to after a day of seeing the amazing sights of Harbin. The location of the hotel is excellent with plenty of restaurants and shops nearby, including a large supermarket. The staff were very helpful and attentive although sometimes there was a language issue. The breakfasts were good with plenty of choice of both hot and cold food. We did dine in the hotel restaurant (Petit Paris) one evening and we both had a steak which I have to say was tasteless. A beer and a soft drink were provided 'on the house' as we were residents of the hotel. Another evening we had room service and whilst I was not expecting a high standard the pizza and pasta that we had was very good. On the 3rd night we went to the Chinese Restaurant (within the hotel but not operated by the hotel). Food here was fairly good. Our last evening in Harbin was the eve of Chinese New Year and the Hotel put on a fireworks display outside the hotel, followed by a supper of dumplings, brisket, noodles, washed down by beer, soft drinks etc. all free gratis!

My wife and I stayed here with a group of 16 friends 21-23 Feb 2014 for the Harbin Ice Festival. The hotel was in a good location, the room we had was very nice and warm, and the reception staff were friendly and helpful and that was all the good points really.
Breakfast: the food was good but the service was dire. on both mornings we had to find our own table, and find a member of staff to clear it. On the second morning we asked for coffee three times but didn't get it. Complaining was useless.
Lounge Bar: Again, service was awful. On two occasions the bar staff went on to serve someone else before they had completed my order and I had to call them back; they were very rude. The washing up facilities were disgusting, a small sink behind the bar where crockery and glasses were rinsed under the tap and washed with their hands and NO SOAP! The washed items were then put to drain on a filthy towel, and their hands were wiped on an equally dirty towel. Disgusting - see pictures.
Also worth noting is that there is no swimming pool, gym or spa at this hotel.
So, in conclusion the hotel is okay if you book room only and don't want breakfast or to use the hotel lounge bar.

Room Tip: Stay on the Exec floor and you get complimentary bar and food in the exec lounge 18.00 - 20.30

The hotel itself was nice. The room was clean and the location was good. The thing that made me give it only a 3 in ratings was the service and food. The staff was HORRIBLE! They were not friendly and didn't want to assist at all until the issue was pushed. Our first day there we wanted to take a taxi to go to the Snow Sculptures. They did write down the Chinese name of it for me but told me I had to get a taxi myself....no problem, we live in China and do this often. But as we walked out I hailed or talked to 3 different taxis and they all told me no. So we went back inside. The guy at the front desk told me again, I had to get a taxi myself, they weren't going to help. Ugh! Finally after a few minutes of trying to figure out what we were going to do the concierge finally came out of hiding and sighed really loud when he had to put his coat on and help us. I was shocked. I was more shocked when this happened a few different times during our trip and that taxis there don't want to pick you up. The other part that was frustrating was the breakfast. We went the first morning no problem, gave them our room number (we had thought we had breakfast with our room) and went in and ate. There was not much of a selection and they were out of most things (at 9am). The next morning we go back down, give them our room number again and they told us we didn't have breakfast with our room....ok so we thought we would just pay for it....but when we asked how much they said 100rmb ($15)! YIKES! I have no problem paying that price if the food is worth it...this was definitely not.

Some friends of ours were in town at the same time and they stayed at the Shangri La and loved every minute of it. The service at their hotel was great. We really wished we had stayed there.

The only good side to the Holiday Inn is the location. It is located right across the street from the Zhongyang Pedestrian Street and about a 20 min walk to the Zhaolin Park and Sophia Square. This is what makes this hotel good.

We moved from the Harbin, Ibis to the Holiday Inn. The differences were like night and day. At the Holiday Inn all the staff we spoke to have excellent english, customer service was fantastic. If someone didn't know how to help us, they found someone who could. It was more expensive, but we were happy to pay that for 1 night before we left area. We wished we'd found it earlier in our stay. The food is of a high standard - steak, salmon at a reasonable price. Breakfast was good. Staff really take the time to look after you. Beautiful presentation. A quiet hotel, we slept like babies! Beds were really comfortable, no hard matress here. Nice, contemporary decor - it looks like some floors are yet to be refurbished, but our floor was great looking. Great location - right at the end of the pedestrian street where you can wander along, looking at the ice sculptures. We'd return if in the area again. The only reason I am not giving them 6 stars is because it was rather expensive, but it seems in Harbin you have a lot of tired-looking Hotels. You have either bargains like the Ibis, or the opposite which you have to pay through the nose for. There are a lot of bad reviews for Hotels in Harbin, so I advise you to do your research if you don't want to be dissappointed.

Room Tip: Make sure you're on the floor which has been redecorated. We actually looked at a room before w...

This hotel is ideally located just across the entrance of Central street. Staff is very helpful, there is a proper pub with a filipino band (more like a duet) playing, rooms are modern and clean, make sure to ask for a non-smoking room if you are not a smoker. Price is very steep during the winter festival, but also as temperature is minus 30C outside, you want to make sure you are well located and insulated.
