My husband and I spent the Chinese New Year Holiday in the newly opened Kempinski Hotel in Sanya. It took 10 minutes by taxi from the airport and we were impressed by the spacious and modern entrance and lobby area. We booked an executive twin bed room ocean view which had a very stylish and tastefull interior including a tub on the balcony. Though, our room was facing the pool but had only very limited view on the ocean. The pool itself is fabulous with a very interesting landscape and a lot of different features, e.g. whirlpools, water slides etc. The Hotel is not far from the flight corridor, so that the landing planes can be easily watched and heard. The private white sandy beach is a big advantage. The staff was very helpful with a great attitude but many of them are still young, inexperienced and with little English skills. All the restaurants in the Hotel were gorgeous. Our tip, try the pork knuckle at the Paulaner. The executive lounge is nicely arranged and has its own pool. The snacks and breakfast however lacked variety. Only very few magazines were available (i.e. an Economist dated Sept 2006) in the executive lounge and no magazines were on sale yet. We offered the front desk to provide a feedback on a few things, but no feedback form was available. At several nights a spectacular firework was arranged by the staff and during the day many activities were offered. In summary, the Kempinski in Sanya is a great place which we liked a lot and would certainly recommend. We are sure that time would cure the little teething troubles which appeared during the soft opening period.
