Traveled to Sanya and stayed at the Kempinski for a corporate function - had an first rate experience overall. My room was large and spotless, with an excellent view of the pool and ocean. I was staying in the exec area which also has a nice exec room where you can get breakfast, etc. in the mornings - very easy. Wireless was not available and Internet connectivity in general was a bit spotty although I'm not sure whether that is an issue with the hotel or connectivity in general in the area.

The hotel grounds are large and quite nice with the sandy beach just steps away. The food was good, not exceptional but good. Staff English is only ok, but they do aim to please.

They even have their own brewery at the hotel where you can enjoy some locally brewed bear on tap. A bit of a surreal experience - enjoying a brew on the Hainan beach, but thats what travel is all about!

Just came back from a four day stay at Sanya. We decided to have our annual offsite for 120 people at the hotel. The event worked out really well and I would highly recommend the hotel not just for corporate work, but could easily bring my wife and my two young children to the hotel as well.

Things that are good:
The hotel is about 20 minutes away from the airport.
It's got great pools. Even one with sand and a water slide which would have been very appreciated by my kids.
The service was VERY professional. Unusual to get this level in China, so extremely well done.
Beach is great. Also good for running. Ask for a dinner on the beach, we had bbq - just wonderful.

Not so good:
In June the weather is HOT!!!
There is nothing right outside the hotel, so if you are after busy city life, this is not the place.

Very impressed with this hotel, the service is very good, the room excellent, the view brilliant, the pool and gardens awesome. The breakfast is as good as we have ever had, unfortunately the evening dinner choices are not so good, practically the only choices are German sausage, traditional Chinese (yes I know we are in China) or a burger. The prices for the food and drinks are horrendously expensive, a can of coke is 35RMB (2.5gbp) a bottle of water is a similar price. If you have booked this hotel, lucky you!

We was here 2 times. In January and November 2007. Of caurse it is not genuine Kempinski as in Europe but here are some good things.
VERY GOOD:
1. The beach is long, wide and clean. And some Chinese guests does not like to swim so you can swim and enjoy alone. It costs a lot.
2. Big rooms, but some problems with furniture - some guests and staff are not tidiness and rooms looks like not new.
3. For children there are pool with white sand, mini aqua park, good Kids room. And 20 minutes on foot there is big Zoo.
4. Tennis cort. Because there is weather in Sanya as in Europe - not so hot, not so damp.
5.Big pool for executives guests. It is deep, long, clean and free. You can ejoy it alone!
6. Executive bar is like a small pub but without publik. If you buy Executive room you can get breakfest like in room - nobody disturb you.
7. European food. When I live in China more than 20 days it is very pleasant.
8. MANAGEMENT AND DIRECTOR. They are very competent. If you have some problems just ask they for help.
NOT SO GOOD:
1. Kitchen is likes in Beijing or Shanghai in 5-star hotels, not so special not so bad. Paulaner Restaurant is good and not expensive. But chinese kitchen restaurant is expensive and when we was there a waiter spilled beer over my suit and ask me to pay for beer. So I have bad memories.
2. Sand is european color - not white.
3. All is very expensive likes you are in Monte Carlo.
BAD:
1. Your toilet has glass door with good audibility! If you invite a wooman in trip she wiil know all you do ususally in toilet! Just Family (2 rooms) suite toilet has a door.
2. 8 floors building hotel cannot has prices like Villas on Maldives! But I suppose if rooms will be more cheaper it will be very "noisly". I think Kempinski must do something for make hotel more luxury and comfortable.
3. Not so interesting to be standard room guest but to be executive room guest is very expensive.
4. Hainan is not exotic place as Mauritius or Maldives, Sanya is a big standard Chinese city and to pay so mutch here is not reasonable.
