“Unhelpful staff, dark corridors, peeling wall paper”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed July 10, 2013

The room was clean but looked very tired, with peeling wallpaper. The bathroom was specifically suppsed to have a bath but had only a shower.

The corridors were very dark and drab, and led to a lift which goes directly to the street outside - very poor security!

The staff were slow and non-communicative at check-in, and completely unhelpful with any non-standard request (room service after 10pm, for example).

Only thing to recommend this hotel is a very good location for reaching business areas in Shenzhen - good if you have an early start.

The Laguna Hotel in Shenzhen is quite an unusual place. It offers a sense of dilapidated luxury, the kind of luxury you'd think a Soviet government official would enjoy while out on tour...
Rooms are enormous by any Western standards - but that seems to be the norm in China, at least based on my experience. There are some luxuries like a flatscreen TV, combined light switches that allow you complete control of all lights from your bed or the shower with massage feature, but somehow all seems old, with a bit of a Soviet-era style in it and quite unusual.
Otherwise, not too many reasons to complain either. The room was quite clean, breakfast acceptable and there are many bars and all-night shops very close by. And it is amazing what 10 Euros will buy you there!
Staff was not great at English, but they were friendly and tried to accommodate all your needs.
One helpful note, especially if you arrive late: hotel reception is on the 16-th floor for some reason, not at ground level. Also, while WiFi is available for free, like everywhere in China it is only accessible from the reception area (not in the room) and of course you won't have any Facebook access so don't get ready to check-in yet!

Staff are unresponsive at check out and will serve line jumpers instead of following any order. Service aside, rooms are big, clean and suitable for families. Showers are big, but there is no bath. Location is close to subway, and access to taxis on Xianglin Rd. Breakfast is bearable, but heavily Chinese (think noodles, rice and boiled eggs). Restaurant across Xianglin Rd, called Bear's Cafe, has decent non-fast Western food and beers. I think it's slightly over priced for what you get, but prices vary in off and on peak. Ask for rooms above floor 6 to avoid being too close to external cooling fans.

This is a very basic hotel. The rooms are large, but already look very tired and old. Walls scuffed and wallpaper ripping. Bathroom fixtures looking corroded and old. Linens all appeared quite clean. Bed was traditional Asian, and HARD AS A ROCK! Corridors were quite dark, not well lit, and it made me a little afraid in the hotel.
Limited WIFI in lobby, but it did not work. Included internet cable in rooms that worked but was slow connection speed.
Staff seemed friendly.

located at a good location, at Exit B from CKM station, a 2 minutes walk can reach the hotel. The bathroom is veryyyyy big. Staff is very helpful. We found that one of the window cannot be closed. Called and the staff come in a very short period of time. Problem fixed very soon.

But not much to dine nearby. Will still stay here next time,
