I have stayed in this hotel 3 times in 2005 - the last stay had some problems.

The hotel is nice but the service from the staff and management bad. All guests were send away in the day time for 10 hours because of security reasons - a minister from Beijing came and wanted the hotel by him selves!!!!!

The VPN don´t work - the hotel got a new IT-manager and he closed down the ports so you can´t send mails through VPN/Outlook- tried to get it fixed without any luck! Even the guests had complaining for the last two weeks!

Room service - forget service, they don´t speek English and don´t know how to serve. Just as a normal chinese hotel service.

My suggestion to your is that if you need service and expect to get it - don´t go here - the management is to compare to chinese hotels (been in China approx. 30 times he last 5 years)

But the area is perfect and fantastic - but as business man this was my last stay! Have not been set out side the door since I were in school!!! Compensation - NO - nothing at all!

Travelleing around the world over the last 7 years I have had the pleasure to stay in some of the worlds best hotels.
However the Royal Lagoon in Dongguan takes the prize for what must be the best hotel I have had the pleasure to stay in.

Set in what can only be called unique grounds you are immediately taken from the hustle of Dongguan to the peaceful lakeside retreat of the grounds.

Walking into reception you are immediately met by the wall of glass at the rear of the building which shows a fantastic view out onto the lake whilst giving a great location for the Garden Bistro bar and restaurant

Reception staff were warm and friendly and had no problems checking in.

Reaching the rooms gave you the knowledge that this was a special hotel (pay the extra to get a lake view for the ultimate experience)
The rooms were spotless and subtle in decor but well air conditioned and stocked.
However the highlight of the room is the bathroom suite.Two large double fold back doors lead you in to a gigantic bathroom with a nice set aside corner walk in shower.
The main thing for all though is the fantastic sunken bath which has incredible dimensions.If you're there on business or pleasure take your favourite bath salts as after a long day this bath is bliss

In the evenings the hotel has a good selection of culinary options,all restaurants come recommended but especially try the Brazilian barbeque as this is an experience definately for the ones amongst us who love their food.

After you can either relax in the tranquil setting of the Garden Bistro bar or for those who enjoy live entertainment try out the Mardi Gras bar

What with the combinations of two equipped gyms,a water world of shoots and flooms,snooker tables,pool tables,a cinema which you can take your own DVD's to play on to your friends and you have a hotel which is a perfect business or leisure retreat

It must be said that this hotel amazed me and was a great home from home.

I cannot recommend this hotel strongly enough and definately is the only place to stay in Dongguan
