“Great budget option”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 7, 2014

Pros :
- Good location close to the CBD.
- Easy access to taxis and public buses.
- Cheap and good service.
- Comfortable and spacious rooms.
- Free wifi with a strong signal.
- Lots of hot water with good water pressure.
- Free breakfast included.

- Smoking inside rooms is permitted, so the corridors and some of the rooms have a smoky smell.
- The karaoke clubs adjacent are noisy till the early hours every morning.
- The cards shoved under your door advertising the services of young girls gets tiresome after a while ... especially considering most of these companies advertise for the service of underage teens ... ... ...
- Most taxi drivers have never heard of the place, so you'll need to know how to get back every time you go out.

- A good solid choice for budget travellers, we would definitely stay here again if visiting xiamen again.

Since this is a TA review English, I need to start with a caveat: It will be harder to stay here if you do not speak Chinese. It seems there is a manager who does, but the staff generally do not.

The rooms are great -- clean, modern, with comfortable beds. Nice high rainforest shower. Internet works well and is included. Also included is breakfast, which is very Chinese -- congee, noodles, stir fry, also hard-boiled eggs, orange slices, unlimited Nescafe. Staff were helpful with all of my requests.

Location: This is a funny one. I don't know Xiamen well, but it is on Tiyu Lu, near the sports center. It is also not far (just over a mile, so not super close either) from the area around Huweishan, where it seems the high-end hotels are clustered. So if you are here for business and looking for a budget alternative, this could be a good option. I paid about $40 USD for my room, with tax and service charge. The location is decent for conveniences like restaurants, grocery, etc.

Biggest drawback of the location: It is next to a nightclub, which had intermittent noise throughout the night. Just a quiet bass/beats kind of sound, but if you are sensitive to noise, you should probably ask for a room as far from that as possible.

In a busy Xiamen week I stayed here a week.
the staff generally don't speak English but are anxious to help.
The manager with the best English of them went over and above to give advice, write addresses for taxis in Chinese.
The bill is in Chinese.
The breakfast is Asian sans some toast&jam and Nescafé.
There is no restaurant. All rooms on one floor and that is a smoking floor (i asked for non-smoking room)

You learn - you learn that Chinese men are awful singers from the KTV karaoke next door that kicks on until 4 or later.
You learn to use Google translate to get their assistance
You learn that Chinese is the dominant culture - hundreds of TV stations but only one CCTV14 I think, in English. Luckily the doco channel had some old Top. Gear reruns with Chinese subtitles.
You learn to order from the photos in the local restaurants who have no English (but it is fun)
You learn that Chinese police watch US reality TV Police shows - a couple of times they had to forcibly arrest drunken karaoke patrons.
