In a city limited for international standards, this was a nice oasis. Clean hotel and very friendly staff. Surprised with good levels of English. Certanly not the best Shang hotel I have stayed, but very good.

ShangriLa Hotel Fuzhou is centrally located next to the main Peoples Square and the city's famous statue of Chairman Mao. It's a pleasant 5 star hotel. I chose to stay on the Horizon Club floor, the lounge of which offered excellent views of the city.

Check in was efficient at the lobby level, and I was upgraded to a suite. Room was of a good size with walk in closet which lead through to a nicely proportioned bathroom. Room was excellent and I was well pleased with it's comfort and amenities.

Happy hour was a pleasant experience although the Club staff speak very little comprehensible English. Food selection and drinks were good with a great view out of the window.

The Korean Restaurant on the lobby level has very attentive staff and the ambiance is good. The meat however was almost all fat which I sent back to the kitchen. I was not charged for that. The kimchi chigae - Kimchi soup was excellent and warming, and the beer a sound accompaniment.

Lobby area is clean, impressive, immaculate and spacious. The Lobby Lounge is nice to relax and have a drink in the afternoon.

The level of English spoken at the hotel is very poor and management should consider addressing this. Ms Fancy on reception is an exception to the norm and has an excellent command of English - feel free to ask her assistance!

Taxi's can be difficult to find at weekends in the city and the hotel may be able to negotiate a taxi to remain with you all day or half day for sightseeing. Avoid the hotel car service which is more than ten times the cost of a taxi, albeit of course the quality of the hotel car is excellent and the service impeccable.

Journey to airport is about 70 minutes.

Good hotel save for the poor level of English. Great location!

I'm not sure if it's the hotel, or this is something that's common in China, but I find the atmosphere very low-class for such a luxury hotel. The interior of this hotel is very grandeur, but I bumped into a guest who was smoking inside the elevator! The food is good though, and the rooms are quite pleasant too. So everything lives up to Shangri-La standard, but some guests really make the overall experience quite unpleasant.

I have stayed here a number of time and I really like the hotel and although it is not up to the usual Shangri La standard, but overall the total experience is worth it. The staff are helpful and smiling and the breakfast is the usual breakfast in China, internet is ok, but overall it makes you want to come back.

Large rooms, good views, good bathrooms. The staff were very attentive sometimes English was a bit of a problem but on the whole ok. The restaurant was ok, the breakfast on the whole was pretty good. Not sure what the choice is like the in the rest of the city but I would stay here again.

Room Tip: high floors city views- windows didn't open though

I have stayed in Shangrila Fuzhou numerous times because my company has businesses in Fuzhou. Although carrying the name of Shangrila, it is below the usual Shangrila standard. The carpets are aged and even stained in certain places. The rooms are small by five-star hotel standard, even smaller than HK's Island Shangrila. The bathroom is very small and basic. The location, however, is best. The tourist favorite spot the old Fuzhou city is within walking distance, and it is next to Fuzhou's largest square. The service is also quite basic. Lack of competition is perhaps why Shangrila Fuzhou can still survive.
