“bland appearance but very comfortable rooms”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 18, 2010

We chose this hotel blindly as a place to stay while passing through Punta Arenas. For backpackers, it's a bit of a splurge, but the giant beds and extensive cable are worth it if you're coming off many nights spent in a tent. Breakfast was typical chilean fare, kind of blah -- nescafe and tea, toasted sandwich bread, jams, and some sweet pastries. The walk to the downtown area is not long, ~15-20 minutes, but it didn't seem like a nice walk to make alone in the middle of the night.

I highly recommend this hotel. We had a last minute flight a day early to Punta Arenas and they were able to accomodate us, even though we arrived after midnight. We came back after hiking in Patagonia and they were able to help us arrange a very early departure as well. The desk staff called the owner twice at very odd hours for me and she was absolutely pleasant and helpful. The rooms were clean and comfortable, and it was nice to be a few blocks away from the touristy hustle and bustle of the main street. Any hotel can perform well when things go as planned, but I am always impressed by those willing to go the extra mile when plans go awry - this is a place you can count on!

We stayed three days in Hotel Carpa Manazano and enjoyed our time there.

Staff was very nice and the rooms are comfortable with lots of TV channels.

The only slightly negative thing is the location as it is some blocks away from downtown Punta Arenas (about one kilometer) but this wasn't a problem for us.

Used solely as a base at the start of a trip heading north, Carpa Manzano offered a reasonably priced but uninspiring place to overnight in Punta Arenas. There is major construction underway to remodel the exterior of the hotel. Inside, rooms are simple, generally clean but with no ambience - something which characterizes the rest of the property. Breakfast was awful with reluctant and slow service and a limited food selection even for an area which does not seem to major on breakfast.

Front desk staff helpful and with good language skills but struggling to compensate for disappointing overall fabric of the place.

rooms were small and not all that clean. Helpful staff but breakfast was very limited.

We stayed at the Carpo for one night en route to the Falkland Islands. We chose the Carpo purely based on previous reviews.

We were delighted with the clean and confortable rooms, the good (by Chilean standards) breakfast and the superb, friendly and helpful staff. The man and lady at reception whose names I don't remember went out of their way to be helpful.

The hotel is easy walking distance to the centre (ask my 9 year old) and very close to the Museum, Church and Cemetery.

Thanks to all at Carpo, for a wonderful stay.
