Being declared in Lonely Planet as the most basic place you could ever stay in Punta Arenas, I was not expecting much when making my way to Hostal Independencia. But I had a good feeling about it, as Eduardo (the owner of this place) had already been very helpful via e-mail in sorting out a couple of things I wanted to do and places I wanted to go.
Hostal Independencia might be the cheapest place to stay in town, but this does not at all lower the level of friendliness and hospitality you’ll be experiencing. The house is small but cozy, beds were really comfortable and warm (many blankets and fresh sheets), both bathrooms were tidy and showers got really hot (use the bathroom on the first floor as it has a shower cabin).
The breakfast is without doubt the best hostel breakfast I had in a month of travelling through Chile and Argentina (unlimited bread, cake, jam, juice, coffee, tea, cornflakes, yoghurt and even a freshly made omelette!!!). WiFi is available and working well, 4 internet terminals are on site as well.
Eduardo is a very nice and helpful host going the extra mile to make sure you have a great time and safe travels – you really feel like home at Hostal Independencia! This place is the best budget value for money you can get and I would totally stay there again!
