“unexpected”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 2, 2012

I was not expecting such a vast cavern. The displays about how the cave formed, the bones, teeth and fur that were found are all well explained by the information panels along the way. Easy to walk to from the road.

“Nothing there, but nice walk”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed November 29, 2012

Whilst these caves have some archaeological significance, they are a complete waste of time visiting. There is nothing there! Compare these caves with those you see elsewhere in the world with stunning rock formations, these do not bear comparison. Instead you are treated to a statue of a Milidon and replica fossils and no rock formations. If you are coming here go for a walk as well as it is a nice area, otherwise give this a miss.

“A nice side track if you have time”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 8, 2012

The set of caves are quite far apart so if you're walking you need to give yourself a couple of hours to see it all. It was interesting, especially to find out about the history of the area but unless you're very interested in caves it won't be an all time high.

“Interesting”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 27, 2012

If you're interested about the legend of this giant bear, you should stop and have a visit inside his cave. You'll find it before entering the National Park, about an hour after you left Puerto Natales

“A literary cave”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 11, 2012

Besides the cave`s own merits as the home of many interesting fossils, very entertaining stalagmites (that curve due to the wind), and an interesting geological history, this cave is where the piece of Mylodon skin that inspired Bruce Chatwin's travel book In Patagonia came from. Anyone visiting Patagonia should read that book, and anyone visiting Puerto Natales should visit the cave for that very reason!
