“Singular Patagonia”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 4, 2012

We recently spent 3 nights at this property.Very interesting hotel and not too far from town. The rooms are all very good with wonderful views, but we found the hotel very hot, and could not cool the rooms down at night even with the windows open. We kayaked, went on the glacier excursion, did the walk to the Condors nest ( which was a Patagonia highlight) and went horse riding. All the excursions were excellent and our guides were fantastic. While the food was very good, the menu did not change for any meal the whole time we were there - not even a different soup.
We would recommend this property if you are happy to be in Puerto Natales.

Just returned from a fam trip to Chile and had the opportunity to stay for 3 night at The Singular in Puerto Baries. It was an experience. The staff are just unbelievably polite and helpful. I cannot actually fault this hotel on anything. The food is just the very best so compliments to the staff. The Singular excursions were amazing as well. I unfortunately did not have time to use the spa however I did visit it. The peace and tranquillity there was the best. I reckon no-one will every regret going there.

I traveled to Puerto Natales and decided to visit The Singular while being there (it is just a few kilometers from the city center). I must say we where all surprised to find this exquisite completely-recycled building in the middle of nowhere!

If you cannot afford or are not able to stay there for the night, I recommend you to at least have lunch or dinner at their restaurant. The food and wine are completely worth it!

If I had to choose a singular (no pun intended!) concept to capture the essence of this top-notch hotel, it would be “high quality.” This attribute forms the very core of all of your experiences, from the inventive food, comfortably luxurious décor, and well-planned excursions to the genial staff whose genuine, coordinated efforts ensure your outstanding experience. We booked a full-board package through Jetsetter and even with a discounted rate, we spent much more than usual on accommodation. However, we knew that we were really paying for a memorable experience and felt the value ended up being phenomenal. Getting to and from Torres del Paine NP is no short journey; if you are coming to this area for multi-day hikes and backpacking through the park, then it behooves you to research options outside of the Singular. This hotel is best suited for being an explorer or rugged hiker by day and leisurely winding down with delicious food and drinks in a warm, cozy setting by night. I’ve written more details below by topic so you can pick and choose what else you’d like to know, but overall, we were very happy to have experienced the Chilean Patagonia through this outstanding hotel and wonderful people.

TRANSFERS: (included in full-board package, but otherwise very expensive) We were picked up by private car at the location of our choice in El Calafate, Argentina. Our driver was very pleasant, taking time to point out sites along the route, sharing his knowledge, and even stopping so we could take pictures. Crossing the border was hiccup-free thanks to him navigating us through all the required steps. We still have a crystal clear image of the first time we approached the Singular, a humble, nondescript building set against a beautiful backdrop of majestic mountains and sparkling water dancing around from the visibly strong wind. Wow.

Our return transfer was to a hotel in Punta Arenas and that went just as smoothly.

HOTEL: We spent a considerable amount of time in the restaurant/bar area where the well-coordinated furniture, marked by rich leathers and dark wood, is seamlessly intermixed with industrial relics aptly representing the heritage of this land. Even back in our spacious room, the packaging of the toiletries fit this theme – talk about attention to detail! With the heated bathroom floors and peaceful view of the water, it felt like there was a spa in our very own room. Speaking of, the massage services at the spa downstairs were excellent. The pool is rather small and could be maintained better, but otherwise, the spa area makes for a nice retreat.

The food and drinks were consistently creative and utterly delicious, from presentation to taste. If you are on full-board, learn to pace yourself because most of the main dishes are rather rich. Take your time to savor the fine ingredients and variety of offerings throughout your stay.

We requested a walking tour of the hotel and the manager took the time to carefully explain the history and local culture reflected throughout the space. It was refreshing and impressive to learn how much of the past was preserved in the conversion.

EXCURSIONS: You may get tired, but you will not be hungry! The hotel always supplies you with a handy snack pack and refillable water bottles (kudos for being eco-friendly) on your trips. I recommend skipping the Milodon Caves…just not that exciting. If you have a half-day to spare, I think your time would be better spent exploring and hanging out at the hotel. On the other hand, the “Trekking to the base of Paine Towers” and “The Astonishing Torres del Paine NP” were enjoyable, active, and memorable. There are really no words to describe the breathtaking views and features you will see.

The Singular is truly a unique element in this pristine, mystical destination replete with natural beauty.

We recently visited The Singular and must say that it exceeded our expectations in every regard. Our stay was booked as all inclusive (transportation from Punta Arenas and back as well as all meals and expeditions). While this is more expensive than just booking a room, it is well worth it. Our booking was done exclusively via their website and email which was handled efficiently and in a very responsive manner. We were met at the Punta Arenas airport on time and moved along toward Puerto Natales without delay. It is about a 2-21/2 hour drive but the time passes quickly. The grounds and buildings of the hotel occupy a national historical site of an old sheep processing facility and the renovations and new construction blends in well. Once at the Hotel, we were immediately met at the reception area and checked in in less that 5 minutes. As we arrived early (noonish), we were worried that we would not be able to check into our room. But that was not the case and we were also asked if we would like an "expedition" that afternoon. All the rooms in the Hotel face a fjord and besides being well appointed and spacious, the view from your room is, in a word, beautiful. The Hotel offers 1/2 day and full day expeditions to various places and involving various activities. Our expeditions took us to a glacier at Parque Bernard O' Higgins (half day), Torres Del Paine (full day), horseback riding (half day), Puerto Natales (half day) and the Mylodon Caves (half day). Each expedition was alot of fun and very enjoyable. Our guides Pedro, Lorena (sp) and Jose were all outstanding and spoke fluent english (which we needed as our son is the only one fluent in spanish). Each was engaging and constantly checked on our well being and comfort. While there is obviously a timetable for each expedition, they never hurried us along (or iof they did, we never realized it!). My wife loves photography and she had a field day the entire trip. You will also find the Hotel staff attentive and friendly and always eager to fulfill any request or answer any question. The restaurant offers delicious, fresh food with many regional choices. As some on this board have commented, if you have a long stay here, you may think that your choices narrow down a bit but there is always a daily special or two and our crew of 4 had no issues with food choices. The architecture of the Hotel is very interesting with the buildings preserved and used in an interesting way. They offer Hotel tours on request and while that sounds boring, you won't be disappointed with this ether. In summary, this was a fantastic Hotel and experience for us. It is worth every dollar and will appeal to a variety of traveler interests and desires. In summary, this Hotel and its staff exceeded our expectations in every way.

This hotel was perfect for us. We are not huge hikers but can take 3 mile light hikes with rough terrain. We also like Luxury and the creature comforts of top preperties and this one rocked our world. It had the sensation of being a Pioneer, and an explorer. We were close to all the nearby natural wonders of the world famous Torres Del Paine National Park. But here the additional Fjords, a a connection with nature, is guaranteed. The Singular’s Chef was amazing and dedicated. The guides that were included in the full board price were expertly trained and offered us over 20 different experiences, all with different and accessible levels of difficulty. From trekking a private mountainous reservoir to sailing or kayaking the fjords. Loved every minute and will be back with my kids when they get a little older.

Our family has traveled all over the world and with each destination my husband and I spend hours trying to find the optimal place that will satisfy the interests of our 3 children and ourselves. It is never an easy thing to find a place that meets everyone's needs but Singular does that hands down. One of the pros of staying here as opposed to the other places within the park is that the Singular's location gives you more flexibility as to what you can do. We loved going into Puerto Natales at night and having an unbelievably great pizza night out with the kids or having flexibility of excursions outside of the Park (because it is just as beautiful in other areas and a lot less crowded). And the guides - well, they are all good but Pedro was great. Not only was Pedro knowledgable, warm and supportive but he was able to find a way to engage each and every one of us individually on our various excursions (thanks for the guanaca tooth :)). Finally, the place is so darn cool - the mix of old and new is done really well and there is no bad rooms here - all have a wall of glass that reveals the most incredible view.
Definitely go here. You won't be disappointed.
